Do what’s best for country

Dear Editor: Let me begin by stating that Donald Trump was not my original choice during the 2016 presidential contest. However, he managed to defeat Dr. Carson and to win that election, but before he could be sworn in, “the resistance” began. This is supported by democrats like Chuck Schumer and billionaires such as Tom Steyer and George Soros whose aim is to destroy this presidency and remake the USA in their image. Despite millions of dollars spent, the Mueller investigation has so far not found any collusion between Trump and the Russians. Why then do we have a seemingly ...

Help needed

Dear Editor: Having traveled the full length of W.Va. Route 2, clearly the worst cared for, by far, is the less than 5 miles through Newell and New Cumberland! It’s the same story we who have lived here have heard since I was a young man — all of the money for the state road projects goes to the southern end of the State. It is time for our elected officials (McGeehan, Zatezalo, Weld and Ferns) to put their foot (or hammer) down and get help for us. We are part of West Virginia! Bob McNeil New Cumberland

Midland HOF ceremony lauded

Dear Editor: Sunday afternoon my wife and I enjoyed the company of friends and a couple of my former coaches at the annual Midland Sports Hall of Fame awards luncheon. It was a “home run” (pun intended)! The excellent program, in the beautiful Alumni Hall venue, was again professionally emceed by Chris Shovlin, who kept the program interesting and moving at an unhurried but flowing pace. The selection committee should be applauded for its fact finding diligence in naming the awardees and choosing the caterer (5th Street Deli), whose expedient staff was also polite while serving the ...

Thanks Trump, Gorsuch

Dear Editor: The recent US Supreme Court decision allowing Ohio to curtail its voter rolls is a step in the right direction. The gist of this decision is that those who’ve moved from one address to another without verification or have not voted in three two-year election cycles will have their names removed from voter rolls. Such prospective voters are notified beforehand with a card from the state questioning their current status. Is asking one to verify his address to validate his inviolable right to vote, as some claim, an unacceptable infringement? Leftist-progressives ...

What’s best about America?

Dear Editor: A question has been on my mind lately, one that I believe many Americans, regardless of our personal backgrounds, political leanings, or religious commitments, might also be asking: What’s so great about America? It’s a question that deserves thoughtful consideration, and meaningful and peaceable discussion. It’s also a very American question. From its founding, America has always been more than just a country, more than just one nation among many. America is an idea. The American idea, unique in all of history, is this: that each of us has within ourselves the ...

Does anyone care?

Dear Editor: I have hesitated to write this, but then I would be as much at fault as what I saw this Memorial Day in my annual visit to East Liverpool’s parade if I didn’t say anything. I always stand on the north corner of 6th and Jackson on this day to honor those who paid the ultimate price to protect our country and to “thank those who march.” My issue is with the city officials, and wonder if they just go through the motions of putting on this parade, or do they really not care in making it right? 1. Just two minutes before the parade came around the corner, traffic ...
