Medicare for all is unsustainable

To the editor: As a medical professional who serves patients each day, I know the importance of access to quality care at an affordable cost. As the debate about health care continues, some are proposing new health insurance systems that would be run by Washington politicians. This is a risky approach and I believe our leaders should instead be improving our current system—not creating new one-size-fits-all systems from scratch. ‘If you want this, you gotta vote for Joe Biden’

To the editor: Major events have perhaps turned the tide for Joe Biden. What would his chance of winning in November be were it not for the China virus and the “peaceful demonstrations” on behalf of Black Lives Matter, initiated by the death of George Floyd at the hands of a policeman in Minneapolis? Practically nil. It would appear Biden’s path to the White House is providentially ordained. Never mind the pre-COVID booming economy, tax cuts, the defeat of ISIS, significantly securing our southern border and the restoration of manufacturing jobs from China to the USA, all wrought ...

Mother of 9-11 victim expresses gratitude

To the editor: I want to express my appreciation to both the Evening Review and the Morning Journal for the stories on 9-11-01. I felt that you covered it with journalistic professionalism. Mayor Nancy Murry and Police Chief Wilson did an excellent presentation of the wreath. I was also pleased to see Barry Podwell — a classmate of Cathy’s. Later I watched the ceremony at Shanksville, Pa. Even with the COVID-19 restriction the ceremony was outstanding. The speakers reminded us of the heroic people on that plane. Community lost an outstanding public servant

To the editor: The Lisbon area lost a fine public servant recently. Center Township Trustee Kenneth Schreffler set a good example for others to follow. Kenny — husband, father and grandfather —was not political. He performed his duties without fanfare. He inspected township roads, returned telephone calls from residents, and attended to their concerns. But he did more than that. He was active in his community, again without fanfare, and all for good causes. Those with the values of Kenny Schreffler are in short supply these days. His family’s loss is also ours. Lack of compassion is a real sickness in our nation

To the editor: Life is strange no matter who you talk to on any given day. Yet over the course of the months this Covid pandemic has cursed us, it seems as though it has brought forth more of mankind’s fickle nature. So many people speak about loving one another in the darkest of times yet when times such as these come up more hearts seem to close. Using police for COVID noncompliance is ridiculous

To the editor: I would like to sound off by saying that people in community need to use the police for what they are intended for. They do not have time to investigate people not complying with COVID-19 and people not wearing masks or not social distancing. The police have much more important issues especially in a small community where their funds are limited. They are drastically underpaid and overworked. I would hate to think I would need them for a serious issue and they were investigating someone complaining about not wearing a mask. Grow up people and mind your own business. ...
