To the editor: On Aug. 19, the President of the United States gave us the following directive via a tweet: “Don’t buy GOODYEAR TIRES — They announced a BAN ON MAGA HATS. Get better tires for far less! (This is what Radical Left Democrats do. Two can play the same game, and we have to start playing it now!)” Goodyear is an American company headquartered in Akron, Ohio. Goodyear had decided to remain apolitical. The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention’s theme for the month is to #KeepGoing, by taking simple actions to safeguard our mental health and save lives. Army veteran: War now is against COVID-19

To the editor: I am a very old Army veteran who didn’t say I had a foot bone spur — as Trump did — to not to serve his country. I am sure all of our brave servicemen who have fought in many wars to defend our country would all say I’d gladly wear a mask and do safe-distancing. We are in war now against COVID-19. Hancock County’s million dollar mistake

To the editor: In 2016, the Hancock County Commission offered a nonprofit that had operated their county animal shelter $88,000 from the county’s “general account” to operate the shelter for fiscal year 2017. Combined with the $100,000 annual Animal Shelter Excess Levy, the nonprofit would receive $188,000 in taxpayer funds to operate the shelter. The nonprofit agreed. However, the commissioners also mandated changes to the shelter operation contract so detrimental to the welfare of the animals, the nonprofit would not sign the modified contract.
