Efforts lauded

Dear Editor: The East Liverpool Christian School Parent Teacher Fellowship board would like to extend our deepest gratitude for all of the people who came out to support the first “Love Ran Red Color Run.” We truly appreciated the support from all of our volunteers, sponsors and run participants. The event could not have been held without the assistance from the Glenmoor Volunteer Fire Department, North Star Ambulance and St. Clair Township Police Department. We were able to raise more than $2,000 toward bringing our school playground up to code. Thank you again and we hope ...

City program praised

Dear Editor: Kudos to the city of East Liverpool and its campaign to revitalize itself. We were not able to take any items to HTS on Earth Day because they were too heavy and bulky for us. I called City Hall, and Robin, the Mayor’s secretary, told me about another free service the city is offering and it is wonderful. All you do is place any unwanted items on the side walk in front of your home, make an appointment with her and a truck with a huge claw on it comes to you and picks up your items. We had old TVs, a dehumidifier, sewing machine, a typewriter, and all kinds of ...

Out of touch

Dear Editor: Would it be insensitive to equate the United Steel Workers Union Leaders to having “battered womens syndrome” over their meeting with Senator Sherrod Brown (D) and Senator Tim Ryan (D)? I’m not mentioning the rank-n-file members, just the leadership who are the power/money brokers. In 2016, America has more people working in government than working in industry. America has moved from a nation that makes things to a nation that justs makes rules and regulations. The rank-n-file union members have three major concerns that have caused the disappearance of jobs. ...

Ticket equals loss of business

Dear Editor: Congratulations to the city government of East Liverpool! You have reached a new height in lows. Today, I opened my mail to find that the city of East Liverpool has sold out its police force duties to some money-grabbing company out of the Cincinnati area. Apparently, the city does not feel that its police force is competent enough to trust officers to enforce the state driving laws. I received a ticket for $100 from the above-mentioned organization purporting to be working for the city. No one stopped me, no one pursued me, and no positive proof of my supposed ...

Wrong decisions

Dear Editor: Every year, Hancock County Schools cut its budget for the next year. Of course, they start at the bottom with the aides, teachers and service personnel. These are the very people that have daily interaction with Hancock County children. Getting rid of some of these employees have even caused complete programs to be deleted. I say, quit running things like big business does, get rid of the greed at the top. Stop giving cars and paying for fuel for the higher up employees. Cut their wages. Do you know where W.Va. teachers finish among all the other states in terms of pay ...

Support appreciated

Dear Editor, Randy and I would like to thank all of you who have reached out to us with concern, with compassion and with love during our son Jason Mitchell’s illness. We could only watch and pray as Jason walked out the path that he was on. He fought with determination for the past two years. He wanted to be here for his wife and daughters. The time came when he just could not fight any longer. He said that he just wanted to “go home.” Within 10 days that is exactly what he did. Now, grief and tears of sorrow seem to be our daily companions, yet there is a small light of ...
