Still talking trash

Dear Editor: What the devil is “Heckle and Jeckle” all about anyway? Oops, I mean Senators Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio) and Tim Ryan (D-Ohio). America is expecting profiles in courage, not bystanders whose tirades echo the media, who’ve become the official opposition party. But what could one expect from a political party that has no fresh ideas to implement — running on the same old grievances, and compounding problems with divisive rhetoric. I’ve not mentioned the fact that these two have been and still are the staunchest supporters of Obama-era injustice. It was Obama ...

Taxpayers need to know

Dear Editor: Many residents of Hancock County believe the Commissioners offered the Foundation a new contract they knew they would sign to be able to gain access to over $300,000 in the Animal Shelter Excess Levy account. When the Foundation no longer had a contract to operate the shelter, the Commission directed the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office to ask the State Attorney General for a legal opinion regarding ownership of the Animal Shelter Excess Levy funds. On March 31, Patrick Morrisey, the W.Va. Attorney General, issued a legal opinion regarding ownership of the over ...

What is a mother?

Dear Editor: A mother is: a cook, a dishwasher, a laundress, an ironer, a menu planner, a baker, a shopper, a nurse, a bed maker, a house cleaner, a fixer, a seamstress, a consultant and lover. She’s a cab driver, a peace-maker, a playmate, a listener, a sometimes sergeant, a teacher, a gift-wrapper, a wedding planner, a decorator, a window washer, a rug scrubber, a lawn mower and possibly a painter. She laughs, she cries, she worries and prays and helps you get through those really tough days. She makes appointments with and deliveries to: the doctor, the dentist and maybe the ...

Traffic cams bad idea

Dear Editor: I know there are bigger fish to fry than the traffic camera situation, but this one has gotten under my skin. I was always under the impression that local police existed to protect and serve. Well, I’m having a hard time reconciling our city’s new traffic cameras with this philosophy. In fact, they seem to be a contradiction. I’m curious how many East Liverpool residents have legitimately felt threatened by people driving our streets? It just “feels” like another instance where good residents of East Liverpool are being punished. Some might say, don’t ...
