Dear Editor,

Randy and I would like to thank all of you who have reached out to us with concern, with compassion and with love during our son Jason Mitchell's illness.

We could only watch and pray as Jason walked out the path that he was on. He fought with determination for the past two years. He wanted to be here for his wife and daughters. The time came when he just could not fight any longer. He said that he just wanted to "go home." Within 10 days that is exactly what he did.

Now, grief and tears of sorrow seem to be our daily companions, yet there is a small light of joy … of truth … that is growing brighter day by day. The truth of the cross.

Jesus died and shed His blood so we could have eternal life with Him. Jason's pain is gone. His time of suffering is done. He has finished his race and is no doubt celebrating and enjoying meeting a grandma that he did not get to meet here. We have no doubt that we will see him and be with him again.

Words do not adequately express our gratitude to all of the firefighters, paramedics, police force and sheriff's department personnel that paid tribute to Jason. As men and women who selflessly risk your lives to protect ours, we are very thankful for your service and appreciative of all you do.

Randy and Becky Mitchell
