Wrong decisions

2 min read

Dear Editor:

Every year, Hancock County Schools cut its budget for the next year. Of course, they start at the bottom with the aides, teachers and service personnel. These are the very people that have daily interaction with Hancock County children. Getting rid of some of these employees have even caused complete programs to be deleted.

I say, quit running things like big business does, get rid of the greed at the top. Stop giving cars and paying for fuel for the higher up employees. Cut their wages. Do you know where W.Va. teachers finish among all the other states in terms of pay rate? Very poorly. Yet, it is OK if you pay somebody in top management close to $100,000 and they never even get to know any child personally?

The school system is supposed to be for our children and local families, yet it seems like it is run by people who have never stepped out of their offices. All they do is look at sheets of paper and numbers.

I really believe upper management needs to "think outside the box." Take a look at European schools, even other states and their schools to find answers, but most of all they need to take a hard look in the mirror and answer the question as to why they picked their profession.

Those folks cutting jobs where it benefits our children need to be the ones cut loose.
