The right track

Editor: Congratulations to the Wellsville Board of Education and Superintendent Richard Bereschik on your decision to renovate Nicholson Field with the installation of a turf field, six lane all weather track, upgraded practice field, and parking area. This is truly a great investment in our community and the students of Wellsville school district. In this competitive environment of open enrollment it is critical Wellsville school system offers as many assets and opportunities as possible it’s students. The district has taken positive steps in that direction recently. The ...

Unkempt cemetery

Editor: This letter is written because I am so upset at the condition of Columbiana County Memorial Park. My mother has been buried there since 1982. In all that time I have never seen the section she is in in the condition it currently is which is absolutely deplorable. Last summer I took a weed eater and lawn tools and dug around her stone where grass was growing over it and cleaned it the best I could but it must not have helped much. Two weeks ago I went to put flowers on her grave and could not find it because the grass was nearly knee high and the stones were completely ...

A big success

Editor: Thanks to everyone — book donors, buyers and volunteers — who helped make the recent benefit book sale at Northside Community Church a success. The sale raised in excess of $2,500, all off which will be forwarded to the Tenwek Mission Hospital in Kenya, as promised, to provide modern medical and surgical care to impoverished people in that far-off land. The cumulative total from six book sales over three years is $11,000 raised for this worthy Christian charity. Quality books donated by many individuals and two estates, plus the ongoing donation of discarded titles from ...

Vote ‘yes’ for police levy

Dear Editor: In lieu of the recent tragedy in nearby Pittsburgh with 11 people being murdered and six being wounded, including 4 police officers, it is critical that all the citizens in St. Clair Township rally behind the police levy and vote “yes.” The brave officers in Pittsburgh were well trained and thank God had great equipment when they confronted the shooter. We must assure our local officers are afforded the same updated training and the most modern equipment so they can not only continue to protect us in the manner we are accustomed to but so they can go home after every ...

Smoking issue

Dear Editor: Well, Mountaineer Casino allowed smoking to take effect immediately. But they did sort of make a small part of the gaming floor non-smoking. They put up a few signs so people would know it’s a non-smoking area. But there’s no walls or door to keep the smoke out from the larger area. You just have to sort of remember there are imaginary lines separating the room. To me, I think they should of at least painted a white line on the floor, to separate the areas, so the smoke wouldn’t cross into the non-smoking area. I’m not against people who want to smoke. I even ...

Double standard

Dear Editor: The pipe bombs mailed to those who oppose President Trump is a sad thing to see. Which the president has strongly denounced! Sadly the democrats will not denounce those in their own party, like Hillary, Waters, Harris, Holder, Booker and others in the party who have told members in their party to get in the face of republicans. Another double standard. John Annette East Liverpool
