Dear Editor: Vote: The reason to use one of your constitutional rights. In this case the right to vote and show your displeasure in the smoking ban reversal in Hancock County. No reason to mention names. Everyone knows the usual suspects. Just follow the bouncing ball to the tune of “ca chink, ca chink” of your dollars going into a video lottery machine. One vacancy on the health board, a new member was appointed, and bam the all-county smoking ban was reversed to allow smoking at Mountaineer Casino and LVT parlors. Dear Editor: Whether you’re for the smoking ban or against it, whether you agree with the animal shelter takeover or not, for one second, let’s forget about those things and look at the two candidates currently running for Hancock County commissioner. The current commissioner has 18 years experience and says he will continue to do things as he has done in the past. He has publicly stated that as long as he is commissioner, the shelter will stay as is, and he has finally found someone to appoint to the health board who will vote the way he wants them to. Dear Editor: To God be the glory, great things He has done. I was in a department store when I met a lady from our church and she said, “Oh Don, I am glad to see you. I need prayer.” I said I can do that. She asked, “Can you pray for me and don’t know what it is?” I said yes I can, God knows. Dear Editor: John Maxwell said: “Where there is no hope in the future, there is no power in the present.” As we begin Domestic Violence Awareness Month, we turn our thoughts to victims and survivors of violent, abusive relationships. What empowers a victim to take a stand, to take a step toward safety and freedom? It is hope. Diminished dreams

Dear Editor: In response to the article of the closing of the coal-fired electric power plants, these workers, plus the others from trucking, mining, railroading, and large hauling, probably means well over 1,000 more jobs gone. The bad days of the closings such as Crucible (5,000 jobs) and Weirton Steel (8,000-9,000 jobs) and at least a 1,000 more jobs from truckers, machine shops, etc., are jobs lost forever.
