Food for children

Dear Editor:KidsConnect I & II are non-profit afterschool programs for low-income housing residents, ran by the Columbiana Metropolitan Housing Authority staff. We would like to say "thank you" to the Wellsville Jr. & Sr. High School's faculty, staff, students and parents for their generous donation of food items. The food was donated and collected for a short period of time, with the goal, throughout the school, to block the doorway of the classrooms with non-perishable food items. When the door was blocked completely, the students in that classroom did not have to go to ...

Standing up

Dear Editor:Congratulations to the East Liverpool seniors who chose to recite the Lord's Prayer during their graduation service. Even if they had preferred to hear it sung, they showed themselves to be wise and dedicated as well as open-minded.The Board of Education must have had some reason for taking the music from the program. Did the organization threaten a lawsuit or other harm? Still, listening to a "freedom from religion" group does not seem the way to go. The constitution grants us the "freedom of religion" instead of "from."Perhaps it would have been a good idea for the board to ...

Educate our children

Failing miserably

Dear Editor:Our constitution says "the majority rules," yet if one person says "you can't pray in school" or sing the National Anthem, they are the majority. Why is that? From the very beginning of our nation, until after Woodstock in the '60s, we were a solid christian nation with deep religious morals. During the '60s Woodstock, where drugs, sex, alcohol and murder went unpunished, this was the beginning of the downfall of morals that continues today. People are afraid to walk down the streets at night. Our community leaders are afraid to speak up for what is right, or afraid today's ...

Old school

Dear Editor:Just when you thought you were aware of most of all the inherent dangers that our pre-adults were facing - such as drug epidemic, abuses, molestations, etc. - the federal government enacts an order to our public schools (elementary, junior high and high school) on a mandatory ruling to comply to transgenderism or face losing federal and state financial aid.I'm so flabbergasted that this even made any serious consideration by our government. As for me, just such mandatory exposure to our children is ridiculous. Once you become an adult, we live in a country that allows freedom ...
