Boy Scout communicates his opinion

To the editor: My name is Alex House. I'm a 13-year-old Boy Scout in Troop 2012 from East Liverpool. I’m working on my Communications Merit Badge. One requirement is writing a letter to the editor of my local newspaper to express an opinion on a topic of my choice. I'm writing to express my opinion on going back to school. I'm a little bit anxious about going back to school. However I think we had a long summer and I'm ready to go back. Seeing my friends again will be a welcome change. To be honest, I don't know what the school day will look like. I'm a little anxious about ...

Challenges contentions made by columnist

To the editor: While most of us can agree that it’s important for reputable newspapers to publish a diversity of opinions on important subjects, there is no obligation to publish what amounts to pure crack pottery. I am writing today about the recent opinion piece by Jack Loesch, in which he refers to the COVID-19 virus as a hoax. He is utterly wrong. Scientists are learning as we go, making important findings on the fly as the world battles a virus never seen before. With the rapid spread of infections, scientists began with a base of knowledge from their experience with ...

A win-win for all involved

To the editor: Without hesitation, I am confident the latest realignment of personnel concerning the Columbiana County Port Authority is an absolute win/win not only for the Port Authority but Columbiana County as a whole. I am referring to former Land Bank Director Robert (Bobby) Ritchey leaving the Land Bank and joining the Port Authority in a position of writing grants for economic development and other projects. I am confident his success in directing the Land Bank will continue in his new venture working in conjunction with Tad Herold, the Director Of Economic Development, who ...

During times of turmoil, trust in the Lord

To the editor: I have been thinking about all the things that have happened in the last four months. The virus and all the new words I have learned like "virtual," "stay at home," "the new normal," and so many others. What has gotten into us? We have protests for almost anything. Some want to do away with police. What are we thinking? I don't believe this is what God wants. I believe God wants us to work together, not against each other. God is the answer to all this turmoil. We are going through difficult times. We may understand it but God in control. We need to trust Him. We need ...

Standing behind a family that has stood up for animals

To the editor: My first contact with Alchemy Acres Animal Sanctuary (AAAS) was after I bought my first house and wanted my very own first dog. I called to make an appointment and when I went in the girl working spent quite a few hours trying to find us the right one. “Romeo” ended up being the best dog I’ve ever had and one I’ve never been able to replace. He had been dropped off at AAAS as a puppy. He was adopted and then brought back after a year. He had spent another year at the shelter by the time I got him. Yet he needed no training at all when we brought him home. The ...

To area residents: Help out delivery drivers

To the editor: Once again, I am addressing this important message to all those living in the East Liverpool area and surrounding areas. Folks, for your own safety and the sanity of all delivery drivers everywhere, please put your house number, clearly visible, on the front of your house! If you have a long driveway from the road to your home, put it at the end of the driveway. In this current day, when much is delivered to your door, your help in this matter would be greatly appreciated by food service, UPS, FedEx, Amazon and florists. Not to mention the most important, safety ...
