Reaction to comments by Wellsville officials

To the editor: I am disappointed to learn of the reaction that certain Wellsville officials have had in learning that their recent CDBG application had not been funded. As my office provides guidance to the commissioners regarding the CDBG program, I thought it important to help set the record straight. Part of my responsibility with the CDBG program is to review projects and make recommendations regarding which should be funded. The commissioners do not always take my recommendations, but they always have a reasoned approach if they go another direction. While matching funds are ...

Thanks to all of those helping with cemetery

To the editor:  Locust Hill Cemetery wishes to thank all the hard-working volunteers who came out for the Memorial Day clean up this year. The generosity of the community supporters, members of the Chester VFW, American Legion and Fire Department was overwhelming and very much appreciated. Thank you to all involved in not only the physical labor but also to the many people who made monetary donations toward the event. Thank you also to the caretakers at the cemetery who work tirelessly often under stressful conditions and lack of equipment and still do their best to maintain the ...

Urging the WVDOH to move forward on project

To the editor, The following letter was sent to WV Dept. of Transportation Secretary Byrd White. Dear Secretary White: We write again to inquire about the state of the Route 2 project in New Cumberland. On January 27, the undersigned legislators and members of the Hancock County Commission met with your deputy, Jimmy Wriston, to urge that the WVDOH move forward with Alternative 5A. This option has overwhelming public support, as the people clearly see the safety and economic benefits that it will bring. Mr. Wriston told us that day that we'd know your decision by the spring, but we ...

In response to a Trump supporter

To the editor: I’m responding to the letter to the editor published May 22 from a reader stating her support for Trump. I see him much differently than she does. In her letter she states that she is thankful he wants our country and our economy to prosper. Right now it certainly isn’t. Most of the people prospering are wealthy and the ones who got the biggest tax cut. He hasn’t done much for the working class. She is thankful for how Trump handled the COVID virus. I’m certainly NOT thankful or happy how he handled the COVID crisis. If he had taken it seriously, when it was ...

Resident issues thanks to Gov. DeWine

To the editor: A special thanks goes out to Governor of Ohio DeWine. I was so pleased when he made the announcement that wearing masks would be optional for customers in stores and not a requirement. Recently we went to Amish country in Ohio and we're very pleased that we did not have to wear masks while shopping and we could be free Americans in our own state. So far the governor's plan seems to be working very good and I hope everything opens up soon 100 percent and the economy gets back to where it needs to be. Shane Kasunich, East Liverpool
