County engineer's office still look for salt solution for the winter

LISBON — Columbiana County Engineer Bert Dawson said his department is still working on a salt issue after receiving no bids for sodium chloride rock salt for the upcoming winter. The bid opening was set for Aug. 5, but instead of bids, the department received three letters from companies who had been invited to bid, all saying they were unable to submit bids, including Morton Salt, Cargill and Compass Minerals. Section of Stookesberry Road closed for flooding issue

LISBON — A section of Stookesberry Road is closed for now where there’s a dip and the road is flooded over off of state Route 45 outside Lisbon. Columbiana County Engineer Bert Dawson announced the closure, which happened Sunday after heavy rains, saying the creek coming down near a culvert has flooded over the road, adding “there’s nothing we can do. It’s all backing up from downstream. Dawson said motorists can go on state Route 45 and backtrack at the other end of Stookesberry to gain access. Sheriff’s Office — A woman from Hillside Drive, Butler Township, reported at 9:36 p.m. Saturday that she’s in the state of Florida and her estranged husband entered her residence through the outside basement door and turned off the security camera while her 15-year-old son was at the residence by himself and locked himself in his bedroom. Former police chief waives right to preliminary hearing in domestic violence case

LISBON — Former Liverpool Township police chief Jayson Jackson waived his right to a preliminary hearing Monday, with his case for fourth-degree felony domestic violence bound over for consideration by the Columbiana County Grand Jury. Jackson, 53, Campground Road, Wellsville, appeared briefly before county Municipal Court Judge Danielle Menning for the latest case. He’s accused of allegedly punching a woman several times during a domestic on July 26 in Liverpool Township.
