CALCUTTA — Beaver Local’s strong softball season came to a close with a 3-2 loss to Indian Valley in a Div. IV district semifinal on Tuesday at Beaver Local High School.
The No. 4 seeded Beavers complete the season at 19-6, while the No. 5 seeded Braves move to 14-10. Indian Valley will meet sixth-seeded Morgan in the district final Thursday at a site to be determined.
Beaver Local freshman pitcher Addie Thurik gave up a leadoff walk and then retired the next 11 Braves, including seven by strikeout. But Indian Valley managed to break through in the fifth. A sacrifice bunt and two RBI singles, gave the Braves the 3-1 advantage by the end of the fifth inning.
The Braves were hitless for 4 2/3 innings and finished with seven hits.
In the bottom seventh, the first two Beavers reach base before a sacrifice bunt resulted in the first out of the inning. Two walks followed with Lilly Wright scoring on a walk of Thurik. Indian Valley pitcher Shelby Gossett then got Brylee Curtis to pop out and Ciara Call to strikeout to end the game.
Beaver Local got on the board first in the second inning. Tori Druschel led off with a single to center field and went to second on an errior. Brenna Jones followed with a single to center field to drive in Druschel.
Gossett tossed a three-hitter in victory, striking out eight and walking five.
Thurik shut out the Braves except for the fifth inning. She struck out 11 and walked three in seven innings.

MINERVA — Beaver Local’s baseball team bowed out of the Div. IV sectional tournament with an 8-0 loss to Minerva on Tuesday.
Braydon Wood struck out eight and walked one in the winning effort for the Lions.
Mikey Druschel and A.J. Bowser had singles for the Beavers.
Paxton Grimes took the loss with a strikeout and three walks in five innings.
Beaver Local ends its campaign at 6-16-1.
Minerva is 9-14 and will play at Millersburg West Holmes on Wednesday in the district semifinal.

East Liverpool 3
CAMBRIDGE — East Liverpool’s baseball season wrapped up with a 16-3 loss in five innings to Cambridge in a Div. IV sectional opener on Tuesday.
East Liverpool ends the season at 1-21.
Kasen Ramsey had a double for the Potters.
Donovan Shallcross took the loss with four walks and no strikeouts in 1 1/3 innings.
Cambridge (13-11) will play at No. 2 seed Carrollton on Wednesday in the distrct semifinal.
