Standing up

Dear Editor:Congratulations to the East Liverpool seniors who chose to recite the Lord's Prayer during their graduation service. Even if they had preferred to hear it sung, they showed themselves to be wise and dedicated as well as open-minded.The Board of Education must have had some reason for taking the music from the program. Did the organization threaten a lawsuit or other harm? Still, listening to a "freedom from religion" group does not seem the way to go. The constitution grants us the "freedom of religion" instead of "from."Perhaps it would have been a good idea for the board to ...

Educate our children

Dear Editor:Monday, May 30, is a national holiday to honor all the veterans who bravely and proudly served this nation in all branches of the military. The Veteran's City Council each year organizes a parade in East Liverpool to honor all who have served. Many from this area have served in battle since the beginning of this nation. Many have given their lives or been disabled during their service.I feel it is very important to attend this parade and show support to all who have served and to those who so bravely volunteer and serve today. To area citizens, I urge them to bring their ...

Hope for future

Dear Editor:Congratulations to the students at East Liverpool High School for taking a stand for what they believe by reciting the Lord's Prayer. I am proud of them, as are their parents. They taught a valuable lesson to everyone. They set the example by standing up and speaking up. They set the example also that where there is a will there is a way. With young people like this, there is hope for the future.Again, congratulations to them. A job well done! Failing miserably

Dear Editor:Our constitution says "the majority rules," yet if one person says "you can't pray in school" or sing the National Anthem, they are the majority. Why is that? From the very beginning of our nation, until after Woodstock in the '60s, we were a solid christian nation with deep religious morals. During the '60s Woodstock, where drugs, sex, alcohol and murder went unpunished, this was the beginning of the downfall of morals that continues today. People are afraid to walk down the streets at night. Our community leaders are afraid to speak up for what is right, or afraid today's ...

Old school

Dear Editor:Just when you thought you were aware of most of all the inherent dangers that our pre-adults were facing - such as drug epidemic, abuses, molestations, etc. - the federal government enacts an order to our public schools (elementary, junior high and high school) on a mandatory ruling to comply to transgenderism or face losing federal and state financial aid.I'm so flabbergasted that this even made any serious consideration by our government. As for me, just such mandatory exposure to our children is ridiculous. Once you become an adult, we live in a country that allows freedom ...

Standing together

Dear Editor:I just read on Facebook about the 2016 graduation at East Liverpool High. In a society where the threat of an unfounded lawsuit has so much power, these young adults took the power back.I watched the video with tears in my eyes and pride bursting from inside. I can't even imagine the pride that the parents of these graduates have.Although I am a Christian, my feelings do not come from the fact that these students stood together to say the Lord's Prayer, it is that they stood together for something they believed in.To the East Liverpool High School Class of 2016, I would tell ...
