Prompt response

Dear Editor: Recently I received a call from a lifelong friend that was also now living in St. Clair Township and the friend explained their concerns, which, as a former police officer, I realized could be a problem not only for them but the public in general. It was not an emergency, but something that was of a concerning nature. At the time I received the call, I was in the area of township Trustee Jim Sabatini’s shoe store and stopped in and explained the nature of the concerns to Jim who promptly contacted police Chief Brian McKenzie. The next day I was again contacted by ...

A divisive conflict

Dear Editor: America certainly has witnessed a different sort of spectacle during this year’s football season. National Football League players, coaches and owners have demonstrated their solidarity in claimed opposition to racial inequality and police oppression throughout the U.S. and on foreign soil. Certainly, a most dramatic show of criticism that met with welcomed support from the commissioner of the NFL, claiming pride for such bold and courageous protests against the cruel persecution of peoples living under the repressive American way of life. Indeed, if there is any best ...

‘Take a Stand’

Dear Editor: October is the 30th anniversary of Domestic Violence Awareness Month and the 20th anniversary of the Christina House Domestic Violence Program! While we’ve made great strides to address this rampant issue (through legislation like the Violence Against Women Act, programs that help support survivors and victims of abuse, and efforts to teach young people about healthy relationships), there’s still so much work to be done. While violence against women can feel like an insurmountable issue, it’s not. There are things that we can all do to help chip away at the ...

Fun at the Fair

Dear Editor: Thanks so much to the Hancock County Old Time Fair board members and everyone who helped make the fair a success and fun for families in the area. We hear there’s “nothing to do,” and then a community fair is here and there is so much for families. This is a lot of time and effort by many, yet so many more people could be involved. If we as community people don’t support these things, it would not be there to enjoy, so let’s all get out there with our talents — get those tractors out and join the fun. Lots of good food and games. Plan for 2018 to not ...

Let them all play

Dear Editor: Pay to play — apparently not everyone. I have found that according to the O.V.Y.F.L. that even though every player has to pay a registration fee, and put in equal practice time, not every football player is guaranteed time on the field. This is not really a cheap sport for some parents to get into. Also the time spent, two-hour practices, three-to-five days a week. Traveling to games almost every week. Fundraising, extra equipment, etc. It seems if you are a cheerleader, you also pay a registration fee, but you are guaranteed to cheer. Why isn’t it the same ...

Pray and ask for mercy

Dear Editor: Our world has gone crazy with terror, wars, drugs, riots, corruption and all the seven deadly sins. The USA, according to some, has been blessed by God because of all the good we have and do for others. Now, I wonder if God has called back his blessing with a “You have made your bed, now sleep in it” thought. When the followers of Jesus asked him when the end would come and he would establish his Kingdom, he told them the signs to look for that would mean the end of the era is coming. Almost all of the signs are present except, WWIII, and only God the Father ...
