Bus stop safety questioned

Dear Editor: I am the mother of a 5 year old and 4 year old. I would like the support of all Beaver Local parents and students to help assist me, and all Beaver Local students that reside on Gipner Avenue and/or any student anywhere within the Beaver Local School District, to have the bus pick up my 5 year old within a more reasonable and safe pickup/dropoff spot, preferably at the end of my driveway. The bus route for over 50 years has picked students up at the end of their driveways, but this year it’s being said the neighbor is telling the school board that they can no longer ...

Computer classrooms

Dear Editor: With colleges and universities starting up at the end of August, perhaps one should pause to consider contemporary education. Where once halls were filled with academic banter, they are now barren places. Online courses are sapping the number of students in actual sit-in classes. Information technology via online education has taken away face-to-face learning by constructing a virtual student self. The student is led into a dependency on computerization while moving away from interaction skills. Online courses increase the gap between student and teacher. The “computer ...

Sham Cam

Dear Editor: They say it’s not about the large amount of money received from what I call “Sham Cams,” but for safety. Only township and city officials believe this lie. Our citizens’ tax money help paid the wages of township and city employees. I’m for putting in a more reasonable fine for speeding. School zones with red lights on? Fine according to how fast over 25 mph. Say $50 for 32 in a 25 zone; $75 for over 42 in 35 zone; and $100 for over 62 in a 55 zone. High speeds cause most accidents, along with drugs and alcohol. I feel we should pay for our mental lapse: not ...

Catholic Community

Dear Editor: Almost two years ago, Holy Trinity Parish at St. Aloysius Church began an extensive repair/restoration project to address numerous maintenance issues affecting the church building. Many parishioners dug deep into their pockets and pledged money to cover the cost. Over a year into the work, it was decided to move our worship site from the church into the auditorium at the former St Aloysius School. This would allow the scaffolding and tools to remain in the building and work to continue at a better pace. Numerous contractors from many different trades brought their skills ...

Cost savings?

Dear Editor: As a resident of Pennsylvania and a vehicle owner, effective Dec. 31, 2016, PennDot no longer issues vehicle registration stickers. This part makes sense, good goal. But, however, they go on to say that the elimination of vehicle registration stickers is cost savings. “Cost Savings.” Really? As part of the process, vehicle registration fees not only went up from $36 to $37, state cost, also Beaver County and most, if not all, counties in Pennsylvania, enacted a $5 local fee which funds transportation needs in each county. With the aforementioned being said, ...

Choice needed

Dear Editor: We should have a choice of our health care. My choice is holistic (homeopathy) medicine. It is as old as the hills of West Virginia. I choose it — it’s the old fashion way most of us grew up with. It’s safer, healthier, and a lot cheaper. It works with our body not against it. Prescription drugs we don’t really know much about. The paper you get with them does not tell all of their problems they cause (sometimes you have to ask for papers). Holistic — called by some people, home remedies — our parents used them. 1st choice: holistic medicine and ...
