Vets picnic event should have been rescheduled

Vets picnic event should have been rescheduled To the editor: It is the proper decision to cancel the veteran's picnic event due to unsafe weather conditions for Saturday, July 20, but once again, vets as myself, Vietnam era and vets from any era get pushed to back burner by not rescheduling the event for another weekend. Now we must wait until 2020. It's a good thing those who serve don't put serving off until it's the perfect time and weather. Vets deserve better treatment than to wait another year. The contract required an annual renewal by both parties. In May of 2016, the nonprofit successfully passed a $100,000 annual Excess Levy to help financially support operation of the shelter. Less than a month later, June 2016, the commissioners provided a new contract to the ...

Stop crying ‘wolf’ whenever you plain dislike someone

To the editor: When I was a youngster my mother told me a story of the little boy who cried "wolf." Briefly, it tells of a young lad who knew that all the neighbors would come running to the rescue if a wolf should be threatening the flock of lambs each of them had raised. The boy called out "wolf" and neighbors, armed with pitchforks, shotguns, etc., came to his aid. He thought it so amusing that he did it over and over again. One day a wolf did arrive to threaten the boy and his flock. He cried "wolf" but no one came. His continued cries had left his neighbors indifferent to his ...
