Responds to comments regarding Christmas tree

To the editor: I am responding to the comments that was on The Review’s website concerning the decorating of the city's Christmas tree in the Diamond area and complained on how horrible it looked. My name is Paula Vaughn and I am vice president of The Beacon Association here in East Liverpool. There was only a group of five of us that took time out of our already busy day to decorate the tree and the Diamond area (I had blasted all social media outlets three days in advance asking anyone in the community to come and help decorate the tree and Diamond area). Three to four days ...

Thanks to our mail carriers

To the editor: I, like many of us, sometimes forget the obvious things we take for granted and on this note I am referring to our US Postal mail carriers. We take for granted that approximately the same time most days we open our mail boxes to retrieve our utility bills, Christmas cards and sometimes packages not thinking about how they arrived at our houses. I would simply like to "thank" the postal workers that brave the elements (rain, snow, brutally hot or cold weather) to deliver our mail. If the opportunity presents itself please take a moment to thank your carrier. Paul ...

Of ants, grasshoppers and the Democratic Party

To the editor: Enough cannot be said. In an ongoing saga of fighting for what is right, an opportunity once again arises for the industrious ant to experience the joy of being of service to the grasshopper disinclined to work. But remember, the grasshopper needs lots of money that he may be properly nourished and sustained. Which poses a dilemma: how should the funds required for the grasshopper's needs be procured? After ...

Words of appreciation from a proud mayor

To the editor: I would like to take this time to thank all those people that supported me during my time as a public servant. I have no doubts that Mr. Bricker will be able to do the job but there will be a huge learning curve and I hope everyone understands that and gives him time to learn the job. I would like to thank all the department heads, the union leadership, and employees for always working together for the betterment of the city. At no time in recent history has every department worked so hard together to accomplish goals and move East Liverpool forward. I am proud of ...

Socialism is no good

To the editor: What will happen if socialism ultimately prevails here in the USA? Some say we're there already. But not quite. For all those who've swallowed the promises of peace and prosperity, qualities supposedly inherent in socialism, a brief glance at history is in order. One cannot simply accept the tenets of socialism without a close reading of its primary advocates, viz., Marx and Engels. Go even further back and examine the ideas of the "Free Thinkers" of Europe of the late eighteenth century. Those errant philosophers promise utopia, but invariably it is at the expense of ...
