WEIRTON --The Fidelis Gamma Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa International Women's Educators Association met on May 4 at Aloha Delights with Diane Higgins presiding.
President Higgins welcomed the members. Bonnie Queses read an inspirational reading, "Enjoy Your Coffee," for the thought of the day, followed by a blessing.
Treasurer Carolyn Allison gave the financial report. Margo Polk's form for Altruistic hours, monetary and non-monetary items were distributed and recorded.
President Higgins is planning to distribute the bylaws at the June meeting. Fraternity Education was presented by Janet Benzo as she circulated a word puzzle / scramble to solve.
Under publicity, Ruth Fuller reported that she sends articles to the local newspapers with information about our chapter meetings, etc. Nancy Deters and Liz Pugh collect the articles when published.
Scholarship Chairman Liz Pugh announced the winner of the yearly scholarship. Pugh will send a letter inviting the scholarship winner along with his/her family member/ members to the June meeting. Pugh made a recommendation to rotate or divide the four high schools between Brooke High School and Madonna High School one year, and Weir High School and Oak Glen High School the next. The recommendation was passed by all members.
Under unfinished business, President Higgins is looking to secure a permanent area for monthly meetings. Jerry DeFilippo secured a restaurant for the June 1 meeting at Froelich's Classic Corner in Steubenville at noon. A motion was made and carried.
President Higgins distributed the guidelines/ policies and procedures to the members.
Under concerns for the group, members mentioned "get well" wishes for Shirley Washam, Sandi Anderson, Eileen Snyder and Elaine Ferarri. Susan Cullinan asked for a remembrance prayer.
Hostesses for the "May Birthday Party" were Nancy Conley and Bonnie Queses. President Higgins offered special thanks for the beautiful plants that given to each member A May birthday was celebrated by singing "Happy Birthday" to Nancy Conley.
Hostesses for the June 1 meeting will be Twinkle Smith and Diane Higgins. Members are requested to wear blue and gold to the next meeting to celebrate WV Day.
The meeting was adjourned by President Higgins.
