State berths for seven Bears

WEIRTON, W.Va. — The Oak Glen wrestling team had seven state qualifiers from the West Virginia Secondary School Activities Commission (WVSSAC) Division II Region I Tournament Saturday at Weir High School. The Golden Bears finished second out of 13 teams with 198 points, trailing team champion Williamstown with 198. Cameron was third with 130 1/2. Noah Schmidt topped Oak Glen by winning the 215-pound weight class by pinning Wheeling Central’s Dustin Sanner in 1:53. East Palestine hosts USA watch party

EAST PALESTINE — A gold medal watch party to cheer on former East Palestine student and Team USA hockey player J.T. Miller will be held Sunday morning at the East Palestine High School auditorium. Doors will open at 7:30 a.m. with the USA-Canada hockey match in the Olympic final to start at 8:10 a.m. Fans are encouraged to wear red, white and blue and to bring signs. Miller attended East Palestine schools through his sophomore year until moving to Ann Arbor, Michigan, to join the United States National Team Development Program.
