Beavers claim Buckeye 8

CALCUTTA — Beaver Local’s softball team took care of business in the Buckeye 8 Athletic League championship game on Wednesday as Brylee Curtis once again provided the spark in a 7-4 victory.

Curtis, who tied a state record with four home runs in one game on Tuesday, once again homered for the Beavers in the win. She also added a single and two RBIs.

Brenna Jones also homered for Beavers Local, while Addie Thurik and Macie Bourne had doubles.

Thurik was the winning pitcher with five strikeouts and no walks.

Beaver Local is 15-3, while Martins Ferry fell to 18-2. The Beavers are currently leading OVAC Class 4A and should take the top seed heading into next week’s tournament. Martins Ferry was No. 1 in Class 3A.

Beaver Local is at Crestview today.

Southern 0

COLUMBIANA — Columbiana hung onto its share of the Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference lead with a 10-0 win over Southern on Wednesday.

Kyla Hogan and Ella Eisenbraun delivered for the Clippers with a double and single each. Natalie Barrow also had a double.

Ella Eisenbraun was the winning pitcher with six strikeouts and a walk in three innings.

Lidia Spahlinger had two hits for the Indians. Addy Martin took the loss with three strikeouts, three walks and nine earned runs in four innings.

Columbiana is 10-3 overall and 8-0 in the EOAC.

Columbiana hosts Leetonia on Monday.

Southern is 6-9 overall and 3-6 in the EOAC. Southern hosts Lisbon on Monday.

NEW MANCHESTER, W.Va. — Wheeling Park scored two runs in the seventh inning to down Oak Glen 5-3 on Wednesday.

Kylie Robinson had two doubles, while Nevaeh Heath added a home run with two RBIs.

Mattie Carney had eight strikeouts and a walk in seven innings for the Bears.

Oak Glen is 13-9, while Wheeling Park moved to 15-12.

Oak Glen is at John Marshall for two games today.

LISBON — Makayla McKee had two doubles, a single and four RBIs to power Crestview to a 20-6 win over Lisbon on Wednesday.

Rylee Cloutier added three hits and two RBIs. Alivia Shetler had two singles, a double and four RBIs. Addison Finch had a double and an RBI.

McKee was the winning pitcher with seven strikeouts and a walk over four innings.

Sofia Brown hit two doubles for Lisbon. Bridgett Newbold added three hits and an RBI. Abby Ammon and Emelia Cook had doubles. Aria Reckner had two hits and an RBI.

Lexi Roush had a strikeout and six walks in five innings of work for Lisbon.

EAST LIVERPOOL — Union Local posted a 5-2 win over East Liverpool on Wednesday at Patterson Field.

Alanna McGonigal had a double and triple for the Potters, while Addie Jones had a single and double.

Tatum Fink was the losing pitcher with nine strikeouts and four walks in seven innings.

East Liverpool (7-14) is at Weir today.

Wellsville 13

STEUBENVILLE — Steubenville Central Catholic scored five runs in the seventh inning to down Wellsville 14-13 on Wednesday.

For Wellsville, Madilynn Drysdale, Makayla Landess and Madelyn Landess had three hits each.

Rylee Brown had two doubles.

Makayla Landens had 12 strikeouts and two walks in 6 2/3 innings.

Wellsville is 4-10 and is at United on Monday.
