Make Chester Shine

Dear Editor:Thanks to all the Chester people who keep the entrance into Chester so beautiful. It's one of the best kept exits in this area. On the hill to the right is the former C.A. Smith house, and on the left, the historical Chester Tea Pot in all her glory. But don't look now, advertisements for beer line the intersection. They are almost out in the roadway. That's not what Chester is all about.Maybe some churches or local businesses could step up to the plate with some signs that would better represent our town. Tell our story. "Make it Shine."Betty DennisChester

Accept the change

Dear Editor:In 1970 our president of the United States was Richard Nixon and VP was Spiro Agnew. Our population was 205,052,174 and unemployment rate was 3.5 percent. All My Children premiered on television and Diana Ross and the Supremes performed their farewell concert. Over 30 years ago the average income was $10,000. You could buy a home for $27,000. College? Higher education was only $400 - $1200 a year. A first class stamp was only 6 cents to send a letter home. To get home it would cost you 36 cents a gallon in a car that would cost $3,900. The tires on that car would cost $13 a ...

Incompetent leadership

Dear Editor:Politics have always been shrouded in tales of power, ambition, intrigue and deceit; and politicians have a vested interest in the chaos they create to satisfy personal ego or clandestine agendas. In this small corner of "almost heaven", recent events suggest these practices are as well-entrenched in our local affairs as much as they are on the national stage.Much has been written lately concerning the Hancock County Animal Shelter. Whether it was necessary to revise an outdated contract that purports to accelerate the use of euthanasia; the lack of submitting a bid for the ...

Get out and vote

Dear Editor:"DJT vs HRC. These are the worst candidates for POTUS I have ever seen; I am just not going to vote." How many times have you heard this or the alternative: "I am looking at Gary Johnson?"While I can understand their frustration, I am wondering if these people should ever cast a ballot. It seems they simply do not understand our ballot process. Come the fall election America will have a new President-elect. If you are one of the "not voting" in the 2016 crowd be aware that you are voluntarily handing over your participation to someone else. Your declination gives added value ...

Support local health center

Dear Editor:There are a lot of headlines about what's going wrong with health care and how people are confused by all the changes that are happening. There are positive developments though.CAA Health, Behavioral Health, and Dental Centers support the continuing effort in Ohio to bring Medicaid expansion to our working poor. Also, few might be aware that there are now more options for affordable primary health care for working families at Community Health Centers. Now more people whether they have insurance or not can go to a health care home where all their preventive health needs are ...

Vote for Hillary?

Dear Editor:Isn't it wonderful? After the November election, even more grasshoppers will get to dance, procreate indiscriminately and smoke dope. Imagine the fulfillment the hardy, brainy and objective ant will surely realize from experiencing the joy, the unselfish pleasure, of being of enduring service to these burgeoning worthies."Why should these, the chronically needy, or anyone else disposed to do nothing but have fun be obliged to work?" the unselfish ant must ask himself.Should there be any question in anyone's mind as for whom to vote, dispense with your doubts right now. ...
