Weld best to fight drug issue

Dear Editor: Without an answer to the drug problem our area is facing, there is no hope for better jobs. Currently, West Virginia  has the highest heroin and opioid drug overdose rate in the nation. Our peoples’ drug addiction issues is one of the most significant factors that has led to us being the only state in the country with a workforce participation of less than 50 percent. The only state in the entire nation. With as many people as we have suffering from addiction and unable to work, why would major employers want to consider moving to West Virginia? As the ...

Restore local government funding

Dear Editor:Drug addiction is costly. It costs a person everything to maintain: money, health, relationships - and sometimes your life.Drug addiction costs our communities as well. All types of criminal activity are a result of drug trafficking and addiction. Our law enforcement can't keep up with it. The resources needed to adequately protect our communities have been lacking for years. It needs to stop.I implore our elected officials to act. The answer is not another levy. ‘Drive-By Media’

Dear Editor:Accusations are easy to make but hard to prove, so when proof is no longer a requirement, the allegation becomes part of the narrative - a talking point. This means it is the "seriousness of the indictment" taking on a life of its own with truth and facts as meaningless cumbersome distractions.Who or what is the worst perpetrator of the narrative, it is the "Drive-By Media" and it was suppose to be the sacred duty of the press to bring "truth to power."Too add salt to the wound, (the media) are the first to call for civility or lament the loss of civility every election ...

Municipal fee worth paying

Dear Editor:Have you ever wondered why someone would throw gasoline on a fire instead of water? I have and I wondered what was the ultimate goal, what's the motive? What does one gain from this?I am referring to the proposed municipal fee in Chester. I wonder why anyone would go the lengths to pass out petitions stating they are against it. Strange that even people that don't have a nickle in this dime, in other words they don't even live in the city of Chester, would pass them around. When we look at the big picture, we see that for 30 years there has not been an increase in the fee. Are ...

Voices heard with Dyce in office

Dear Editor:There is only one candidate for state representative who is interested in the welfare of working men and women in Columbiana County and he has a record to prove it. That man is John Dyce.John's involvement on behalf of workers was seen in his tireless efforts to win repeal of Senate Bill 5 in 2011, through referendum. John also supports attempts to increase the state minimum wage. He recognizes that there are many wage earners in Ohio and, particularly, in Columbiana County, who are facing the prospect of trying to raise a family on a mere $8.10 per hour.John, a veteran of ...
