School board thanked

Dear Editor: On Nov. 28, 2016, the Lil’ Potters football and cheerleading organization donated $600 to the East Liverpool Board of Education’s athletic board for all it does for us during our season. We left the board meeting after we made the donation — we had no idea that Richard Wolfe made a motion to donate the $600 back to us and the entire board approved the motion. I and our entire board of directors thank each and every board member for being so kind to our team. The money will go toward new equipment for the team. There are not many school boards out there that would ...

Don’t eliminate state boards

Dear Editor: The state legislature is considering two bills (Senate Bill 366 and House Bill 617) which would dramatically alter the way medical professionals are regulated in Ohio, including optometrists. Under the bills, about a dozen boards would be eliminated and consolidated — in some cases with unrelated professions. For instance, optometrists would find themselves governed by the same board regulating audiologists and speech-language pathologists. Many local professionals, including optometrists like myself, are opposed to this unnecessary action. First, all boards ...

Work together to fight drugs

Dear Editor: I am a mother, a friend, a sister, and a daughter who has been affected by the demon of drugs. I am tired of something so small, yet so powerful, destroying (us) humanity. Year after year, I watch as this monster separates and destroys our families. This ugly villain alters our loved ones’ minds causing them to say and do things that leave them even more broken and guilt ridden, which holds them in their addiction; these drugs control their actions, driving them to steal, kill, and abandon their families. How long are we going to talk about the problem instead of ...

Look at the work

Dear Editor: To be listed on the National Register of Historic Places, a division of the U.S. Department of the Interior, should be a matter of pride, not only for the history that has passed through it, but respect for how it was built and maintaining its original architecture. The Courthouse Inn in Lisbon, Ohio, is listed on the National Register as Ohio’s Oldest Brick Building. When it was restored, the government’s guidelines for exterior restoration were followed. If you question those guidelines, take a good look at how exquisite it is. How could it have been done ...

NCST great addition to city

Dear Editor: We toured the New Castle School of Trade —what a beautiful building inside and out. I was especially amazed at the original hardwood floors upstairs. What a wonderful addition to our city. We are becoming quite the college town. I have been in business here in the city for 55 years (Mille’s Beauty Center, Walnut Street) and am very proud to be part of this wonderful city. I would also like to thank Kent State University and Scott College of Cosmetology. Millie Guisler Midland, Pa.

Managed TNR program works

Dear Editor: The management of free roaming, stray, and feral cats is a serious issue facing our communities. On one hand, there are those people who love and care for these cats; on the other are those who hate the cats and want them eliminated. No matter which side of this issue you are on, there is common ground — each side wants the cats managed. The consensus is that TNR — Trap, Neuter, Return — is the most humane and the most effective method to achieve this goal. A managed Trap-Neuter-Return program with a set feeding area and schedule discourages roaming. Spaying and ...
