County park board approves 2027 proposed budget

LISBON — The Columbiana County Park District Board approved next year’s proposed budget totaling $86,350, hired a second seasonal maintenance worker and approved a roof repair contract during a special meeting Monday. “Our biggest expenses are utilities, employees and port-a-jons,” Chairman Tom Butch said, along with maintenance. Court News LISBON — A Salem man accused of drug charges was sentenced to 12 months in prison during a sentencing hearing in Columbiana County Common Pleas Court. Jerry L. Malone II, 45, West Fifth Street, was charged with aggravated possession of drugs and two counts possession of drugs, all fifth-degree felonies. He also received a mandatory $5,000 fine. Malone possessed methamphetamine, alprazolam and clonazepam on July 23, 2024. Sheriff’s Office —A deputy was dispatched at 6:39 p.m. Thursday to Creek Road, New Waterford for an aggravated menacing report, with a warrant issued through Columbiana County Municipal Court for a North Lima man for aggravated menacing. St. Clair Township — An officer investigating a report of a downed tree on Dale Street on June 17, notified that the tree was covering the entire roadway with wires down. The fire department and AEP were notified.

Wellsville fire chief asks to resume talks on transferring dispatch services

WELLSVILLE – The Wellsville fire chief is looking to resume talks about transferring dispatch services to the county 911 center. Fire Chief Barry Podwel recently told village council he would like to resume discussion of transferring dispatch services from the fire department to Columbiana County 911. Podwel has been encouraging the switch for the past several months due to a lack of available responders.
