Beaver Local BOE learns about Bycroft fees

LISBON — A change in service agreements with the Robert ByCroft School has made the Beaver Local School District responsible for half of the cost of their students placed with the specialty school. District Superintendent Eric Lowe said the district was only recently notified of the shift in fee structures that resulted in an estimated $71,379 cost to the district. “In the past, there has not been a charge. Wellsville school board tables non-renewal of contract for teacher

WELLSVILLE – The Wellsville school board Monday night held an extended executive session before tabling action on the non-renewal of a teaching contract. The board tabled the issue regarding the contract of Mitchell McDowell, a Daw Elementary fourth-grade teacher, following four hours behind closed doors. Board members unanimously agreed to discuss at a later date the matter of the contract non-renewal at the end of the 2025-2026 school year. EP woman pleads not guilty in animal cruelty case

LISBON — An East Palestine woman pleaded not guilty during arraignment Monday on four counts of prohibitions concerning companion animals related to 21 animals seized from her home due to alleged unsanitary conditions. Jennifer Albert, 38, West Main Street, was ordered to have no companion animals as a condition of her recognizance bond for the misdemeanor charges. Beaver Local teacher suffers injuries in dog attack

LISBON — One of two dogs that attacked a woman out for a walk Friday at Lake Tomahawk was scheduled to be euthanized today, with the other one in quarantine in Mahoning County, according to Columbiana County Dog Warden Heidi Wallace. Wallace said Monday the owner of the one dog volunteered to put the dog down, but the owner of the other one refused and said the dog would remain in quarantine. Woman dies after Monday morning crash in Perry Township

PERRY TOWNSHIP (WKBN) — The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a Monday morning crash involving a semi-truck that resulted in a woman’s death. Yolanda Medina Matos, 58, of Campbell, died at the hospital Monday as a result of injuries from a crash around 10 a.m. Monday. The two-vehicle crash happened on state Route 344 at the intersection of Cunningham Road. A release from authorities states the other driver, a 51-year-old Salem man, was taken to the hospital as a precaution with no apparent injuries.
