Hancock County approves voting precinct changes

NEW CUMBERLAND — Several voting precincts in Hancock County will be on the move following action by county commissioners. As part of their meeting Thursday, commissioners approved an order for precinct changes in the county. “This is a combining of precincts,” Commission President Eron Chek noted. Commissioners began the process of the precinct changes during a special meeting June 15, when officials noted the move was an effort to meet new regulations stipulated by the passage of Senate Bill 481 earlier this year. Appeals court upholds sentence of former teacher convicted of having obscene images

YOUNGSTOWN (WKBN) — The Seventh District Court of Appeals this week upheld a 25-year sentence given to a former teacher who pleaded guilty in Columbiana County Common Pleas Court to having obscene images of children. The appeals court said that 25 consecutive 12-month sentences given to 70-year-old James Watt in January by Judge Megan Bickerton after he pleaded guilty to 45 counts of pandering obscenity involving a minor were proper. Beaver Local prepping for golf outing, Back to School Bash

LISBON — The Beaver Local School District annual Golf Outing is quickly approaching and the district is also preparing for the next school year with the Back to School Bash. The 17th annual Golf Outing is scheduled for Aug. 1 at Turkana Golf course in East Liverpool. The outing is sponsored by the Red, White and Athletic Association, Inc. and raises funds for the district’s student athletes programs. Wellsville receives funding for marina renovations

WELLSVILLE — The village has received funding for renovations at the marina. Fiscal Officer Hoi Wah Yu reported to council Tuesday the village has been awarded $25,000 from the Charles M. Pugliese and Thelma M. Pugliese Charitable Foundation. She noted that the grant could also possibly be used toward matching funds for CDBG Plus dollars. Wah said she applied for the grant in March. Driver accused in fleeing pedestrian death faces felony charges

LISBON — The driver accused of hitting and killing a pedestrian and then fleeing the scene the evening of Feb. 4 on Bradshaw Avenue in East Liverpool is now facing felony charges, including aggravated vehicular homicide. Tracy C. Quimby, 34, Jackman Street, East Liverpool, was served Thursday with the secret indictment issued last month by the Columbiana County Grand Jury. The charges, all third-degree felonies, include aggravated vehicular homicide and three counts of failure to stop after an accident.
