Jackson pleads no contest in domestic incident

LISBON — Former Liverpool Township police chief Jayson Jackson must report to jail Monday morning to serve 19 days after pleading no contest and being found guilty of assault amended from domestic violence for a 2024 domestic incident.

Jackson, 52, whose address was listed in Liverpool Township, was scheduled to face a jury trial on Sept. 24, but appeared in Columbiana County Municipal Court on Tuesday for a status conference.

He opted to enter a plea after the prosecution filed a motion to revoke his $20,000 cash or surety bond due to an incident Sept. 2 when he allegedly slashed the victim’s tires in violation of a no contact order that was a requirement of his bond.

No formal charges have been filed yet for the tire slashing, but county Assistant Prosecutor Isabella Simon wrote in the motion that charges were imminent and that “the alleged conduct demonstrates ongoing risk to the victim and disregard for the court’s order.”

Simon withdrew the motion due to the plea to the amended charge.

Judge Kelly Linger fined Jackson $1,000 for the assault charge and sentenced him to 180 days in the county jail, with 160 days suspended and credit for one day served, leaving the balance of 19 days still to serve.

He also must complete 50 hours community service, be evaluated for alcohol/substance abuse, anger management and general mental health and must take all medication as prescribed. He’s prohibited from consuming or possessing alcoholic beverages or entering any premise serving alcohol as its primary business. He must make every effort to obtain employment within 60 days.

As part of the terms of three years probation, he must have no contact or communication with the victim, with the no contact order in effect until Sept. 9, 2028.

According to a Liverpool Township Police report, Liverpool Township police officers were called at 1:14 a.m. Dec. 4, 2024 to Jackson’s residence for adults fighting. A woman allegedly said Jackson choked her and gave her a bloody nose. Officers then made contact with Jackson, who said nothing was going on and they had both been drinking.

Jackson served as a police officer and then chief for many years before leaving law enforcement sometime between late December 2021 and early January 2022.

Starting at $2.99/week.
