Awards Program held at Oak Glen High School Field House
NEW CUMBERLAND – The Awards Program was held May 28, at Oak Glen High School, in the school Field House.
Principal David Smith presented awards to the Highest Honor Students of the Class of 2015. The Highest Honor Students are Tori Mikelle Bragg, Kayla Benancia Louisa Campos, Emmy Michaela Delekta, Brianna Nicole Evans, Patrick David Reardon, Breydi Shanielle Shenton, Jessica Ann Stivason, and Hayley Alisha Yeater.
Mrs. Karen Martin recognized the students who received the Promise Scholarship. The students are Tyler Click, Emmy Delekta, Brianna Evans, Erin Fields, Evan Hall, Morgan Hertzler, Madison Kranis, Marissa Nolder, Patrick Reardon, Zachary Rhodes, Breydi Shenton, Brady Smearman, Alyson Snow, Jacob Stipec, Nicholas Tice, and Hayley Yeater.
Miss Sherrie Garner presented the West Virginia University scholarships to Evan Hall, Morgan Hertzler, Madison Kranis, Brady Smearman, Jacob Stipec, and Nicholas Tice.
Mrs. Rhonda Tysk, a representative from West Liberty University, gave the West Liberty University Scholarships to Marissa Davis, Emmy Delekta, Zachary Rhodes, Breydi Shenton, and Haley Spurlock.
The WV Northern Community College Scholarships were given by Mrs. Lisa Soly to Daniel Calmbacher, Mynx Mayhew, Breydi Shenton, Samantha Talbott, and Devon Temple.
Mrs. Susan Weaver, a representative from Kent State University, gave the Kent State University Scholarship to Cassidy Eddy.
Mr. Chris Rouhier of Wheeling Jesuit University presented the Wheeling Jesuit University Scholarships to Patrick Arneault, Felicity Nolder, and Cody Waggoner.
The Davis & Elkins College Scholarship was presented by Mrs. Becky Pauls to Nathaniel Bennett.
The Kaylin Blake Rice Scholarships were presented to Tori Bragg, Kylie Dawson, Erin Fields, and Alyson Snow by Miss Kyleigh Rice.
On behalf of the trustees of the Mary E. Watson Trust Fund, Mr. John Brenneman presented scholarships to Nathanial Bennett, Thomas Cave, Alexis Johnston, Mynx Mayhew, and Brady Smearman. Mary E. Watson was a resident of this area who was extremely interested in education. The Mary E. Watson Trust Fund was set up in her honor.
Mrs. Cindy Nelson presented the Lynn Simmons Memorial Scholarships to Morgan Watson.
The Hughie Simmons Memorial Scholarship was given by Mrs. Nelson to Nathan Bebout.
Mrs. Shela Foltz presented the James W C Foltz Memorial Scholarship to Brennan Smith. This scholarship is given by the family in loving memory of a life- long educator who made a difference in every life he touched.
In memory of the late Lt. Col. Mark C. McGeehan, the McGeehan family sponsors a memorial award which is given to the “most dedicated senior student athlete at Oak Glen High School.” Mr. Patrick McGeehan presented this award to Lucas Nagy.
The Lions Club and the Kiwanis Club of Chester sponsor the Mark McGeehan Memorial Scholarship. Mr. McGeehan presented Hayley Yeater.
Mr. David Elder presented the Albert Logston Memorial Scholarship to Samantha Talbott.
Mr. Elder also presented the Lions Club Scholar of the Month Scholarship to Kayla Campos.
The Alpha Delta Kappa Scholarship was presented to Hayley Yeater by Mrs. Carolyn Allison.
Mr. Steve Kourpas awarded the Chester Volunteer Fire Department Scholarships to Nathan Bebout and Nicholas Tice. The scholarship is awarded to students who are residents of Chester and who plan to further their education following graduation.
Mrs. Patty Bruce presented the Point Pleasant Ladies Aide Society Scholarship to Hayley Yeater.
The Hancock County Association of Retired School Employees Scholarship was presented by Mr. Smith and given to Hayley Yeater.
Mrs. Diane Bowers presented the Paul Kuhns Memorial Scholarship to Erin Fields.
Mrs. Bowers also presented the Daughters of the American Revolution Scholarship to Hayley Yeater.
Mrs. Sheila Robinson presented the CTE Global 21 Performance Certificate to Zachary Rhodes.
Mrs. Robinson also presented the Delta Kappa Gamma Scholarship to Hayley Yeater.
The American Legion Post 121 Scholarships was given by Mrs. Mary Jennings Thorn to Nathan Bebout and Hayley Yeater.
Mrs. Michelle Chappell presented the OG Cheering Boosters Scholarships to Lonna Cline, Marissa Davis, Morgan Hertzler, and Samantha Talbott.
Mr. Sam Paletta presented the OG Soccer Boosters scholarships to Nathan Bennett, Erin Fields, Madison Kranis, and Addison Sayre.
The Alderson-Broaddus College Scholarship was presented by Miss Garner to Olivia Murray.
Miss Garner also presented the Marshall University Scholarships to Erin Fields, Olivia Murray, and Haley Spurlock.
The Fairmont State College Scholarship was presented to Brianna Evans by Mr. Smith.
Mr. Smith also presented the Waynesburg University Scholarships to Cole Beaver, Marissa Nolder, and Brennan Smith.
Mr. Smith presented the Edison T Chaffin Jr Memorial Scholarship to Patrick Arneault.
The Chester Newell Sportsman Club Scholarship was presented by Mr. Smith to Madison Kranis.
Miss Garner presented the Charles M. Pugliese & Thelma M. Pugliese Scholarships to Bryan Congo, Ryan DeBee, Brianna Evans, and Haley Spurlock This scholarship is awarded to seniors with a 3.0 GPA or above.
Miss Garner presented the Weirton Rotary Club scholarship to Evan Hall.
The Tokash Technical Scholarship was given to Micah Swiger by Mr. Smith.
The Serra Family Foundation Scholarship was presented by Mr. Smith to Olivia Murray, on behalf of the Serra Family who are strong supporters of education.
Miss Garner presented the Mountaineer Futures Scholarship to Olivia Murray.
Miss Garner also presented the Weirton Medical Center Scholarship to Olivia Murray.
Mr. Smith presented the OG Grapplers Club Scholarships to Ryan DeBee and Nicholas Tice.
Mr. Smith also presented the OG Touchdown Club Scholarship to Noah Mills.

Oak Glen High School has received a generous bequest from Mr. Charles Linn Troop and his sister Martha Troop, true humanitarians who placed high emphasis on education and positive community involvement, in memory of their parents John and Lida Troop. The John & Lida Troop Scholarships were presented by Mrs. Smith to Tori Bragg, Morgan Hertzler, and Brady Smearman. This scholarship is renewable depending on the recipient’s course of study.
The total amount of scholarship awarded to the students of Oak Glen High School amounted to over $800,000.00.
