Supply & Demand?

Dear Editor:Like most Americans, I am in total shock over our current drug epidemic. What is really scary is there doesn't seem to be a quick fix, but for me I have some issues with just that. For example, we invade Afghanistan, where their primary crop is poppies - from which heroin is derived yet although heroin is outlawed in every country we didn't eradicate the crop. Now I'm sure there were some lame duck excuse for not - like other products are made from such, etc.In reality, whatever their GNP would be from other products, our country alone could probably double it. And save ...

Facts about the Animal Shelter Foundation

Dear Editor:The Hancock County Animal Shelter Foundation has done some amazing things, while saving many animals. We believe all lives matter. No animal is "put to sleep" due to space or time limits. "Euthanasia" should not be a primary means of population control. It is not humane, nor is it effective. What does work are adoption events, spay/neuter clinics, education services and clinics, responsible pet ownership, and foster programs. It is proven that the programs HCASF provide, work. The Hancock County Animal Shelter staff and our volunteers provided such services, resulting in record ...

See beyond the photograph

Dear Editor:"You can't handle the truth!" Those were the words of actor Jack Nicholson in the movie "A Few Good Men," and that is exactly how I feel toward those that disagree with posting of the photos of the recent unloving, uncaring and overdosed adults in a vehicle with an unknowing year-old child. This unfortunately is not an isolated incident and we in the Tri-State Area are not immune to this because some may chose to put their heads in the sand and ignore this epidemic and repeatedly talk about blurring the child's photo rather then focusing on the fact of irresponsible adults - ...

City officials to be commended for photos

Dear Editor:Police Chief John Lane needs thanked for his articulate and spot-on interview with NPR relating to the drug overdose photo. He perfectly expressed the challenges he and his officers face on a daily basis.(If you have not heard this interview, go to www.npr.org/2016/09/12/493654929/ohio-police-release-photos-of-couple-who-overdosed-in-car-with-child.)And I commend the decision to publish the photograph. As far as blurring the child's photo, the most unfortunate part of this situation is, without doubt, that this precious child was in the car at the time of the overdosing. It ...

Is money well spent in township?

Dear Editor:Liverpool Township, is on a spending spree. A couple years ago, they got double the police budget to $3 million. Then a road levy for a few more million. Now, they want a few million for a new police station - while we listen to dogs bark 24-7, cars driving like maniacs, and dodging school kids like traffic cones.Go take a look at East Liverpool's police station. Or Wellsville's. Some $3 million to police a township of 4,800 residents?Time to email DeWine's office?Jody DavisLaCroft

9/11 ceremony was special

Dear Editor:I want to extend my heartfelt appreciation for the outstanding coverage given for the 15th anniversary of 9/11. All those involved did a professional job and they must be proud.I cannot express personally to all the people who were kind to me that day. I was humbled.I especially want to thank the entire village of Wellsville. The speakers were either classmates or just friends of Cathy and made me smile with their recollections of her accomplishments. They made me cry when they said how much her death had affected their lives. They comforted me with hugs. I told them in my ...
