Dear Editor: The similarities of the instant background check that is required when buying a firearm and the presidential election recount effort is striking. First, the background check conducted by the National Instant Criminal Background System (NICS) isn’t instant for a large percentage of the American population. You can be in a delayed status when buying a firearm if your name is the same as a known felon.
