Former Election Board member expresses views

To the editor: Much is being made in the race for county prosecutor of John Gamble’s so- called “experience”. Well let’s examine his “experience” as it relates to recent headline news reports. John Gamble has been fined by a visiting judge for “willful contempt” and was threatened with jail time, not ten years ago, but a few months ago. Good “experience”? John Gamble has had to have another visiting judge assigned to a case filed against him by the Attorney General of Ohio for violating the Hatch Act, knowingly soliciting civil service police officers to violate ...

Neglected properties concern neighborhood coalition

Neglected properties concern neighborhood coalition To the editor: I am writing on behalf of our neighborhood coalition to bring attention to a serious issue that is going on with property tax delinquencies with East Liverpool, My neighbors and I work very hard to keep our neighborhood looking nice and do our best to keep our homes and yards well maintained. With the mayor’s leadership in the city, things are really starting to turn in a positive direction, but abandoned homes, blight and declined property values are issues that need to be resolved and with leadership from county ...

Former judge supports Gamble

Dear Editor: I am supporting Chief Assistant Prosecuting Attorney John Gamble for the top job of Prosecutor in the coming election. John has 30 years of service in that office with the last 20 in his current position. I personally witnessed John successfully prosecute many cases including the most serious criminal offenses. He is an expert in finding his way around a courtroom. In contrast, his opponent does not even practice criminal law and has run a very negative campaign. Unfortunately, your papers have once again participated in giving widespread publicity to obvious political ...

Another endorsement for Gamble

I write as a former Assistant Columbiana County Prosecuting Attorney, former Assistant City Prosecutor and Police Legal Advisor for the City of Akron, Ohio and friend of John as well as the staff of the Columbiana County Prosecutor’s Office. John did send me a letter asking for my support as a local attorney, but has not asked me to write this letter and does not know that I am doing this. I am writing solely because I believe in the importance of this race and the strength of his ...

To the editor: The Columbiana County Democratic Women’s Caucus at a Sept. 19 meeting unanimously endorsed Linda Bolon for reelection as Columbiana County Treasurer. Her stellar life of public service as a state legislator and county treasurer has been invaluable to Columbiana County and to the state of Ohio. The Columbiana County Democratic Women’s Caucus was recently formed as a chapter of the Ohio Democratic Women’s Caucus and in four weeks has grown to over 400 members. “I am extremely honored to have received this endorsement,” Bolon said. “I believe these women have ...

Urges voters to support park district levy

To the editor: Our Columbiana County Park District is seeking a modest quarter-percent of one mill levy to make improvements and maintain the county’s current assets. For only about 73 cents per month on a $100,000 home we can continue make our county a great place to live with excellent outdoor recreational opportunities. I have personally visited many places around Ohio that have embraced and invested in their natural resource assets to create local economic engines. For decades, their outdoor recreation has helped small, independent business thrive and contribute even more to ...
