EOAC athletes gun for OVAC spots

ST. CLAIRSVILLE — United’s Brinsley Hiscox and Taylor Simmons and Southern’s Maddy Jones posted the top marks in the Ohio Valley Athletic Conference Class 1A-3A qualifying meet Wednesday. Hiscox topped the Class 3A girls 100-meter hurdles, while Simmons tied for the top spot in the high jump. Jones was first in the Class 1-2A girls shot put. Area teams sent only a few athletes because the Columbiana County Track and Field Meet will be held today in Salem. Salem, Branch look for new leagues

West Branch and Salem have plans in motion for their next league landing spots. The two schools have applied for positions in the Mahoning Valley-based All-American Conference and the Medina, Portage and Summit county-based Metro Athletic Conference. The AAC league affiliation would be for all sports but football, while the MAC would encompass all sports.
