Southern’s Jones qualifies for state

AUSTINTOWN — Southern Local senior Maddy Jones qualified for the state track and field meet with a third-place showing in the shot put on Wednesday with a best throw of 38 feet, 6 1/2 inches at the Div. IV regional meet at Austintown Fitch. Jones hit that mark on her second throw. She fouled on the last three attempts. Norwayne's Haley Bittinger was first (40-1 1/4) and her teammate Hannah Froelich was second (39-11 3/4). Lisbon’s season comes to an end

LEAVITTSBURG — Sixth-seeded LaBrae ended Lisbon's season with an 11-1 win in five innings on Wednesday in a Div. VI district semifinal. Lisbon, the 10th seed, fell to 17-9. Ashton Hinchliffe led the Blue Devils with two hits. Mason Jones was the losing pitcher with three walks, three earned runs and three strikeouts over three innings.
