CALCUTTA -- Beaver Local dropped Harrison Central, 25-18, 25-12, 25-12, Monday and finished first in the Buckeye 8 North Division.
The Beavers improve to 12-3 and will host 15-0 Martins Ferry in the Buckeye 8 championship match at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the ECO Center in St. Clairsville. Martins Ferry is ranked third in the Division V state poll.
Topping the Beavers were Addie Thurik with eight kills, 15 assists, five dig, and two block assists; Lily Schrieber eight kills, three assists, five digs and two block assists; Olivia Opalenik three kills, three digs, three solo blocks and 2 block assists;
Gianna Congrove two aces and four digs; McKinnley Ferry seven assists, two aces and five digs; Taylor Pease three aces and 12 digs; Madison Poppelriter four kills and two digs; Leah Schrieber had two aces, two assists and seven digs; and Katie Miller two digs;
Beaver Local also won the junior varsity match, 25-14, 25-15. Macie Bourne had six kills and five digs for the Beavers. Madi Gaydos had eight digs, Makayla Jungfleisch five aces and four digs. Maddie Smith eight assists and three aces and Katie Miller three kills.
ST. CLAIRSVILLE 3, EAST LIVERPOOL 1
ST. CLAIRSVILLE -- East Liverpool’s volleyball team began a busy week with a 25-19, 25-12, 19-25, 25-8 loss to St. Clairsville on Monday.
Cameron Conley had 24 assists for the Potters, 11-4. Kendall Martin added 15 kills. Hailey Board added three kills and two blocks. Addi Smith had four kills, while Melanie Watson had five kills. Addisyn Boyle had three blocks.
St. Clairsville is 13-2.
St. Clairsville won the jayvee portion, 25-23, 26-24. Maddie Campbell had five aces for the Potters.
East Liverpool hosts Oak Glen on Wednesday.
OAK GLEN 3, EAST PALESTINE 0
NEW MANCHESTER, W.Va. -- Oak Glen handled East Palestine, 25-13, 25-13, 25-18, Saturday.
For East Palestine, Marley Blythe had seven kills, eight digs and four points; Destiney Burtyk five kills, six digs and four blocks; Cadence Vargo six digs and three kills; and Kennedy Andre 12 assists, two kills and four digs.
Oak Glen also won the junior varsity match, 25-13, 25-6. For the Bulldogs, Aubrey Oltmann had four points, two aces and four digs, Aliviana Valingo four kills and four digs and Layla Grubert four assists and five digs.
