Beaver Local, Oak Glen await OVAC boys pairings

NEW MANCHESTER, W.Va. — Owen Hill had 24 points to guide Beaver Local to a 68-52 win over Oak Glen on Thursday in boys basketball action.

Beaver Local is 15-4 and should secure the second seed in the OVAC Class 4A tournament. The cutoff date was Thursday and pairings for next week’s games should be released today.

Oak Glen is 10-6 and was clinging to the fourth spot in Class 4A before Thursday’s game.

Luke Rettos added 12 points for the winners, while Matt Anderson had 11 points.

For Oak Glen, Gavin Geisse had 16 points.

Beaver Local won the jayvee game, 33-26. Jett Johnson had nine points for the Beavers. J.P. McElroy added seven points.

Lisbon 40, Liberty 36

YOUNGSTOWN — Lisbon’s girls basketball team got an early start against Liberty on Thursday in a ‘Hoops at Noon’ game at Liberty High School.

Led by Eme Cook’s 15 points the Blue Devils pulled out a 40-36 win on Thursdsay. Lisbon is 12-9 and hosts Heartland on Wednesday to close out the regular season.

Jayden Smyth added 12 points for the winners, while Lylah Brown had 10 points.

Danelle Coleman had 10 points for Liberty, 3-16.

CAMBRIDGE — Beaver Local’s girls basketball team scored a 45-41 win over Cambridge on Thursday in an OVAC consolation game.

Beaver Local (8-12) trailed by seven at half time only to take a six-point lead heading into the fourth quarter.

Mercedes McCullough led the Beavers with 11 points. Mallory Miller added 10 points.

Cambridge fell to 4-17. The Bobcats dressed just six players.

Beaver Local goes to Minerva on Saturday and will close out the regular season by hosting Salem on Wednesday.

HANNIBAL — East Liverpool’s girls basketball team went on the road for an OVAC consolation contest on Thursday and came up short 44-35 at River.

East Liverpool is 6-14, while River is 11-10.

The Potters , who are ranked ninth out of 16 teams in the OHSAA Div. IV East District RPI heading into Sunday’s draw, host Oak Glen on Wednesday. Of the 16 teams in the Div. IV East District only three have records over .500.
