Beavers gain top OVAC seed

ST. CLAIRSVILLE — Beaver Local secured the top seed in OVAC Class 4A by topping St. Clairsville, 17-25, 25-21, 25-22, 25-15, Thursday.

The Beavers (18-2) open OVAC tournament play Tuesday by hosting the fourth-seeded team, likely Oak Glen. The junior varsity match will start at 5:30 p.m.

Beaver Local got another balanced effort as Addie Thurik had 10 kills and 12 digs; Bria Boyd three kills, 41 assists and 12 digs; Eva McKnight 10 kills and two digs; Giada Williams seven kills and three blocks; Karsyn Bowyer 24 digs; Lily Schrieber 23 digs, 12 kills and three aces; Perri Gilson two aces and six digs; Sydney McNear nine kills and five digs; and Taylor Pease nine digs. Sydney Wilson-Plunkett helped lead the Beavers behind the service line.

St. Clairsville drops to 16-3, including two losses to Union Local.

Beaver Local won the junior varsity match, 25-18, 18-25, 25-13. For the Beavers, Gianna Congreve had 12 assists, five digs, and three aces, Leah Schrieber had nine kills, five aces and 10 digs, Madison Poppelriter seven kills, two aces, and three digs, and Sophia Gibson three kills and 17 digs.

Beaver Local made it a sweep by winning the freshman match, 27-25, 25-19. Makayla Jungfleisch had seven kills, three aces and eight digs for the Beavers, while Madi Gaydos had 11 digs and Jessica Layman four kills and four digs.

Columbiana 3,

Southern 0

COLUMBIANA — Columbiana put the finishing touches on a third straight East Ohio Athletic Conference volleyball title Thursday.

The Clippers swept Southern, 25-12, 25-12, 25-15, to stretch their league unbeaten streak to 28 matches.

Columbiana improves to 18-1 overall and wraps up EOAC play at 14-0. United is two games back, while Southern tied for third place at 8-6. The Indians are 11-9 on the season.

Addisyn Dangler powered the Clippers with 17 points, six aces, 10 kills, two blocks and three digs. Landry Smith had 16 kills, five points and two blocks, Evy Rapp 10 points, three aces, six kills and 12 digs, Eva Waller 30 assists, two points and three digs, and Lily Jackson three points, two aces and six digs.

The Indians honored Brooke Boyle, Haylee Kellogg and Allyssa Shroades on Southern’s senior night.

Shroades had eight assists and six kills, Kellogg eight assists and Boyle four digs. Also for the Indians. Natalia Lopez had five points and two kills, Katie Kellogg six kills and Kalayah Crute four kills and two blocks.

Columbiana also won the junior varsity match, 25-13, 25-17. Riley Fisk had 11 points, two aces, four kills and five digs for the Clippers. Harper Cuff added 10 points, Abby Barborak seven points, two aces, three kills and four assists, Ella Eisenbraun five points, three kills and 13 assists, and Ava Marks 12 kills and three kills.

Khloe Ensinger and Jocy Richards each served five points for the Indians.

Columbiana will host McDonald for a varsity-only match Saturday.

Wellsville 3, Leetonia 0

WELLSVILLE — Wellsville’s volleyball team scored a 25-20, 25-14, 25-19 win over Leetonia on Thursday.

Wellsville is 6-14 and 5-9 in the Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference.

Leetonia is 0-17 and 0-14 in the EOAC.

Wellsville awaits OVAC consolation play next week.

Louisville 3, East Liverpool 0

LOUISVILLE — East Liverpool is hurting.

The Potters lost for the fourth time in six matches, 25-16, 25-11, 25-11, to Louisville on Thursday.

But East Liverpool did have a reason to celebrate as Ava Green earned her 1,000th career kill in the contest. Green had eight kills in the match, while Presley Jones had six kills. Addie Jones had two kills, while Ayla Riggle had two aces. Kendall Martin had 16 assists.

The Leopards improve to 12-7, while the Potters drove to 13-7.’

Louisville won the jayvee match, 21-25, 25-14, 25-12. Ella Gunning had seven assists, while Addie Smith had three kills.

East Liverpool will play OVAC consolation matches next week.

East Palestine 3, Lisbon 1

EAST PALESTINE — East Palestine celebrated senior night with a four-set win over Lisbon, 23-25, 25-19, 25-17, 25-20, on Tuesday.

For the Bulldogs (10-9, 8-6 in the Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference), senior Amara Wilson had 13 kills, 15 digs and two blocks. Fellow senior Cami Kridler added 20 assists, six digs and eight points. Marley Blythe tallied 12 kills, 22 digs and seven points, while Kennedy Andre had 18 assists, 11 digs and 17 points. Destiney Burtyk chipped in nine kills, six digs, four blocks and 13 points.

Lisbon is 9-11 and 7-7 in the EOAC. Maddie Marshalek had 15 kills for the Devils, while Alayna Householder added seven kills. Stefanee Stacey added 26 assists, while Addison Anderson chipped in 10 points and 12 digs. Abby Ammon had nine digs, while Gionna Lenigar had four blocks and five kills. Hannah Davis had 15 digs, while Kylyn Boyd had five digs.

In junior varsity action, Lisbon won 26-24, 18-25, 25-22. For East Palestine, Jacklyn Ogle had eight kills, Miranda Perkins collected four kills, eight points and four aces, and Violet Glavan added four kills, 10 points and three blocks.

Olivia Smith had seven kills and a block for Lisbon. Gracyn Owens had 17 assists, five kills and five assists. Sydney Tremnel and Delaney Pickens each had five kills.

East Palestine visits Liberty on Wednesday.
