Beavers fall in district final
CARROLLTON — Beaver Local’s boys soccer team strung together a strong season, but couldn’t find a way into the back of the net in Thursday’s Division IV district final against River View.
The second-seeded Black Bears’ first-half goal held up in a 1-0 victory.
Fifth-seeded Beaver Local falls to 11-6-2 on the season and was 2-3-2 in its last seven matches to end the season.
River View will see top-seed St. Clairsville in the regional semifinal set for Wednesday at Cambridge High School.
Lake Catholic 7, Crestview 0
MENTOR — Crestview’s boys soccer team didn’t have the guns to upset No. 4 seed Mentor Lake Catholic in the Div. IV district semifinal on Thursday.
Lake Catholic had four goals in the first half and three in the second half in a 7-0 rout of the 16th seeded Rebels.
Crestview finishes the season 15-4 and had won 10 straight coming into the match.
Lake Catholic is 12-3-3 and its losses this season were to Lakewood St. Edward, Notre Dame Cathedral Latin and Parma Padua. The Cougars will meet No. 2 seed Chagrin Falls on Saturday at Orrville High School for the district title.
Columbiana 3, Bristol 2, SO
BRISTOLVILLE — The Columbiana girls soccer team went the distance Thursday.
After the 17th-seeded Clippers and fourth-seeded Bristol Panthers were tied 2-2 entering the second overtime Wednesday before darkness suspended the match, Columbiana returned to win the Division V district semifinal in a 4-1 shootout Thursday.
Columbiana won its sixth in a row to improve to 11-5-3.
The Clippers will play ninth-seeded Columbia Station Columbia (14-4-1) in the district final at 11 a.m. Saturday at Rocky River Magnificat High School.
