WHEELING, W.Va. — Beaver Local captured the OVAC 4A girls soccer championship Saturday at Wheeling Island Stadium with a 4-0 win over St. Clairsville.
Jansen Ours opened the scoring in the 19th minute with a shot through traffic set up by a Leah Stewart corner kick. Peyton Dunn then took over, netting three goals for the Beavers, 12-1. She struck in the 26th minute on an assist from Stewart to give Beaver Local a 2-0 halftime lead, added another in the 47th minute off a feed from Leah Stewart, and capped the day with a long-range goal in the 57th minute on an assist from Emily Saphore to complete her hat trick.
Beaver Local’s defense held firm as Tatum Duncan had seven saves in her eighth shutout of the season. St. Clairsville goalkeeper Kiya Kyer finished with 10 saves.
The 5-5-2 Red Devils, last year’s OVAC champions, entered the final short-handed due to injuries.
The OVAC title was Beaver Local’s third with the others coming in 2006 and 2004.
