COLUMBIANA — The third race in the Clipper Cross Country Series was the second largest since 2019.

More than 200 runners registered with 197 finishing the race Wednesday at the Ward Athletic Complex.

East Liverpool senior Maddox Roach topped the field by a minute, covering the 3K course in 9 minutes, 15 seconds. He set the Potters’ school record in the 800 meters in June on the way to a seventh-place finish at the Division II state track meet.

Beaver Local senior Hannah Ruberto won the women’s race for the third week in a row in 11:41.

The race started about 10 minutes early to beat an approaching storm. Awards were presented just before the rain fell.

The fourth and final race in the series will be held on the 5K course next Wednesday, Aug. 20.
