‘Shaking Hands with Opium’

Dear Editor: “Shaking Hands with Opium” Raised by a nightmare, I stood in a dream I visually glare at the faces unseen I’m swallowing in, and losing my breath Addiction places me in a dance with death Entranced by the judgement of your own conviction I’m asking you now, will you be my restriction Facing the demons of personal affliction Mallery J. Healthy start times needed

Dear Editor: Schopenhauer’s three stages of truth: “All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident.” At this point of time, the Hancock County Board of Education is strongly anchored at first stage. While national health organizations such as the American Medical Association (AMA), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) have strongly advocated for sleep health among adolescents, back in 2014 the Hancock County Board of ...

Pitch in, clean up

Dear Editor: I would like to address our terrible litter situation in Hancock County, W.Va. Victims cannot recover without our voices joining them in calling for justice. In other words, it takes all of us, working together, to bring about justice, ...

Wasted dollars?

Dear Editor: Do you know what the figure $88,000 represents? This is the amount of money the Hancock County Commission offered the Foundation if it signed a contract to operate the Hancock County Animal Shelter for the current fiscal year. Adding the $100,000 in excess levy money, the total county expenditure for operating the county animal shelter would have been $188,000. Second question. What does the figure $248,683 represent? This is the amount of taxpayer dollars the Hancock County Commission has spent at the Animal Shelter as of the end of February. Again, this amount has been ...
