Wasted dollars?

Dear Editor: Do you know what the figure $88,000 represents? This is the amount of money the Hancock County Commission offered the Foundation if it signed a contract to operate the Hancock County Animal Shelter for the current fiscal year. Adding the $100,000 in excess levy money, the total county expenditure for operating the county animal shelter would have been $188,000. Second question. What does the figure $248,683 represent? This is the amount of taxpayer dollars the Hancock County Commission has spent at the Animal Shelter as of the end of February. Again, this amount has been ...

Drug Court right move

Dear Editor: Being a former law enforcement officer in Pennsylvania, I read with extreme interest, the new court program focused on drug offenders. With my background, at one time, I naturally leaned in the direction of incarceration — even for some first offenders. However, that was of another time. In today’s society and during our national opioid (heroin) epidemic, I truly admire the initiative of Judge Chris Amato with the development of the Columbiana County Municipal Drug Court. From my understanding, people entering this program will need to obtain a high school ...

A better description

Dear Editor: For the last eight years, it was unflatteringly obvious that the elected representatives of the Democrat Party had tossed the rule of law aside. Oops, sorry, “unflatteringly obvious” is too PC, so “blatantly criminal” is a far better description. At every turn, when their legislation was passed and signed into law it further their power over American. That will be Obama-care with its job killing regulations, increased enrollments for government assistance, and its unaffordability. As well the divisive fundamental transformation of American culture through ...

Pink be gone

Dear Editor: No more apologies accepted. By now, because of other pink plumes, doesn’t anyone know what makes the plume pink? By mixing the wrong things with other wrong things. Duh! So, tell your children and grandchildren to go outside and play under the cotton candy clouds. This isn’t the cotton candy game, this is serious health issues here. We don’t want anymore of your excuses. The East End of East Liverpool, West Virginia and Pennsylvania already been affected by your mistakes. Don’t worry, it’s not harmful to your health, they say. That remains to be ...

‘Project ROSES’

Dear Editor: I would like to thank the community for supporting me and “Project ROSES” again this year. I was able to raise $1,500 and pass out 1,000 roses throughout the community. I have made donations to various charities with any money that I had leftover. A special thank you to Bob and Robin’s Florist for giving me such a great deal on the roses and having them ready for me to pass out. “Project ROSES” means Reaching Out Seeing Everyone Smile and I was able to do just that with all the support I received. Thank you. Marques McHaffie Chester

Don’t increase water rates

Dear Editor: Council should vote “no” for water increase. Live within your means. Translation: spend only the money you make, not the money you wish you made. You should know from the federal government that this does not work. People on a set income cannot afford this. If you’re trying to make people move out of the city, you’re headed in the right direction. John Arnett East Liverpool
