Donald Coen

1946-2025

Donald Coen, 79, passed away on Oct. 5 at Valley Oaks Care Center in East Liverpool, Ohio. Don lived most of his adult life at 307 Washington St., Newell, W.Va.

Don is predeceased by his parents, Archie and Ruth Geraldine (Gerry) Coen, and is survived by his brothers, Ronald (JoAnne) Coen and Jeffrey Coen, nephew Paul (Jennifer) Coen and niece Sarah Coen Cleary.

Don graduated from Oak Glen High School, New Cumberland, W.Va., in May of 1964. He attended Ohio Valley Business College from 1965 to 1966 and graduated with a diploma in Junior Accounting. He also took courses in data processing at the John D. Rockefeller Vocational Technical Center.

Don served in the U. S. Army from 1966 to 1969. For two of those years, he served in Germany and received an honorable discharge with two letters of commendation, the Good Conduct Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal. He enjoyed and was very proud of his military service.

After his military service, he worked at Colt Industries – Crucible, Inc. from 1969 to 1982.

Don’s passion was sports. He played golf, coached Little League Baseball, and was an avid Steelers fan. He was also a member of the Newell Methodist Church for many years.

He will be missed by his family and friends. A graveside service will be held in the chapel of Shadow Lawn Memorial Gardens in Newell on Wednesday, Nov. 5 at 10 a.m.

The Nixon Funeral Home of Newell is in charge of arrangements.
