RIVER TRAFFIC
The Alice Jean, a coal barge, makes its way towards and eventually under the Wayne Six Toll Bridge over the weekend. According to the Ohio Department of National Resources, the Ohio River handles an average of over 150 million tons of commercial traffic annually, which includes a massive number of barges. This traffic is a constant flow of bulk cargo like coal, oil and grain, with thousands of barges and towboats traveling the river. (Photo by Stephanie Elverd)
