John Wilkes

1938-2025
John Wilkes, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on Sept. 7, 2025, in Steubenville, Ohio, at the age of 86. Born on Nov. 4, 1938, in Wellsville, Ohio, John led a life characterized by family, faith, and dedication to his work and community.
John’s career spanned many years as a skilled Crane Operator at both Crucible Steel and The Jones and Laughlin Steel Corporation, where he was known for his unwavering work ethic and commitment to his craft.
Beyond his professional endeavors, John found immense joy in singing and was an enthusiastic supporter of the Cleveland Browns. His free time was often filled with community, worship, and fellowship at Elevate Worship Center in Wellsville.
A man of deep faith, John dedicated much of his life to serving as a church Elder at Yellowcreek Presbyterian Church in Wellsville, where his passion for his beliefs and love for the community shone brightly.
John is preceded in death by his parents, Henry Charles Wilkes and Evelyn (Hawk) Wilkes; his wife, Bonnie Wilkes; his brothers, Arthur and Henry Wilkes; and his sister, Sonja Stewart. He leaves behind a loving family who will cherish his memory, his devoted wife Linda Wilkes; his daughter Kim (Mike) McNicol, his son John Wilkes, his stepdaughters Teresa Powell-Pagniano and Christina Green, his brother James Wilkes, along with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
John’s life will be celebrated with visitation held at the Martin Chapel of Care Funeral & Cremation Specialists in East Liverpool on Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2025, from 5 to 7 p.m. Visitation will continue on Thursday, Sept. 11, from 10 to 11 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. A short graveside service will ensue at Yellowcreek Presbyterian Cemetery in Wellsville, Ohio.
John Wilkes touched many lives through his kindness, generosity, and steadfast spirit, and he will be dearly missed by all who knew him. May he rest in eternal peace.
