Greg Larkin, 89
LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Greg Larkin, 89, husband of Patricia Ash Larkin, passed away June 12, 2016, in his home, in Los Angeles, after a short bout with brain cancer.
He was born Oct. 9, 1926, to James Gregory Larkin Sr. and Lu Schurman Larkin.
He was an accomplished musician as a pianist, organist and choral director. As a professor at Eastern Nazarene College, he directed Choral Union and A Cappella choirs, traveling the New England District (at the time including East Liverpool) and up and down the east coast. He was also choral music teacher at Arroyo High School and El Monte High School, both in El Monte, Calif., where his choirs received accolades from the American Choral Directors Association, The Music Educators National Conference, and in choral festivals through California.
He played organ for two different world gatherings (General Assemblies) of the Church of the Nazarene. He was a member of AGO (American Guild of Organists).
He led many church choirs, directing from the organ bench – Wollaston Church of Nazarene, Wollaston, Mass.; Temple City Church of Nazarene, Temple City, Calif.; Bresee Church of Nazarene, Pasadena, Calif.; Park Street Church, Boston, Mass.; St. Barnabas’ Episcopal Church, Eagle Rock, Calif.; St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, Altadena, Calif.; and St. Mary of the Angels Anglican Church, Hollywood, Calif.; plus many others.
Greg was a dedicated and loving family man. He is survived by his wife, Patricia; four children, Peter, Nancy, Timothy, James (Jay) Gregory III; and a grandson, Timothy James.
