LISBON — A man facing drug charges for a 2023 incident pleaded no contest and stipulated to his guilt for multiple drug possession and other charges, with sentencing set for Sept. 15 in Columbiana County Common Pleas Court.

Davante Jackson, 32, Cleveland, entered the plea to third-degree felony tampering with evidence, misdemeanors of obstructing official business and resisting arrest, second-degree felony possession of a fentanyl-related compound and fourth-degree felony possession of cocaine, both with specifications for forfeiture of money in a drug case.

Charges of trafficking in a fentanyl-related compound and trafficking in cocaine were dismissed.

Jackson was accused of dropping a bag of narcotics after taking off on foot from officers who responded to an alleged drug deal in East Liverpool on April 3, 2023. A patrolman was injured while chasing him down and had to deploy his taser to stop Jackson. According to the indictment, he was attempting to sell and possessed fentanyl in an amount equal to or greater than 10 grams but less than 20 grams and also cocaine equal to or greater than 5 grams but less than 10 grams. Also in Common Pleas Court:

— Sydney Panza, 27, Freedom, Pa., pleaded guilty to fourth-degree felony assault, with sentencing set for Sept. 8. Panza was accused of pushing a Salem police officer and kicking him in the back of the legs while at the department in Salem in the custody of Leetonia police on June 26, 2024.

— Noah Bainbridge, 26, Alliance, was sentenced to nine months in prison after pleading guilty to fourth-degree felony failure to verify address for failing to verify his address for the sex offender registration on March 27. He received credit for 10 days served.

— Rusty Altman, 52, Cream Ridge Road, Lisbon, was sentenced to eight months in prison after pleading guilty to two counts violation of a protection order, a fifth-degree felony, for entering a protected person’s Lisbon property, knocking on his door and calling him outside on Sept. 14, 2024 in violation of a protection order. He received credit for 85 days already served in jail.

— Erica Skica, 35, Girard, was ordered to serve up to six months at the Eastern Ohio Correction Center for violating her probation for theft from a person in a protected class and two counts of forgery, all fourth-degree felonies. Her community control will continue until Dec. 1, 2026. Skica stole $4,228 from a man from Oct. 19, 2021 to Dec. 15, 2021, forging 11 checks from Oct. 19, 2021 to Dec. 15, 2021 and forging 18 checks from Nov. 20, 2021 to Dec. 15, 2021.

Municipal

LISBON — In Columbiana County Municipal Court, cases against Joseph Otto Altenburg, 38, state Route 165, East Palestine, were bound over to the county grand jury for third-degree felony domestic violence, fifth-degree felony vandalism and misdemeanors of domestic violence, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct for allegedly physically assaulting a woman by grabbing her hair, throwing objects at her, pinning her arm behind her back and pushing her around, also forcefully removing multiple acrylic nails from her fingers. He also threatened her after being taken into custody on July 4 in Unity Township. While he was in custody in an East Palestine police cruiser, he allegedly kicked the driver door, causing the door frame to bend out and continued after being given multiple commands to stop. When he was in handcuffs he continued to attempt to pull away from officers and yell derogatory remarks to a nearby witness.

A preliminary/pretrial hearing was set July 17 for James Laughlin, 34, state Route 518, Lisbon, charged with third-degree felony failure to comply with the order or signal of a police officer and misdemeanors of speeding, turn signal violation and marked lanes. Laughlin allegedly fled at a high rate of speed when an Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper initiated a traffic stop on East Liverpool Road in Madison Township. Laughlin allegedly drove into a yard, left his vehicle and fled on foot into a woodlot on June 29.

A pretrial was set on July 24 for Shawn Morris, 39, South Ellsworth Avenue, Salem, charged with domestic violence for allegedly pushing a woman during an altercation on July 14 in Salem.

George Feezle, 50, Enon Valley, Pa., was fined $200 and sentenced to 180 days in jail, with 150 days suspended and credit for 11 days served, leaving a balance of 19 days still to serve in jail for domestic violence. He was ordered to complete 60 hours community service and to have no contact with the victim. Feezle hit a woman with a mounted door, spit in her face and threatened to kill her before he fled the scene on June 20 in Center Township.

A pretrial was set Oct. 7 for Sean Burnett, 18, East Fifth Street, Salem, charged with assault for allegedly striking a victim in the jaw after the victim yelled at him to slow down on June 7 in Salem.

Sentencing was set Aug. 12 for Harold Bell Jr., 62, North Howard Avenue, Salem, who pleaded no contest and was found guilty of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle for taking a woman’s vehicle without her consent on July 14 in Salem.

Michael Anderson, 63, Alliance, was fined $75 for an equipment violation amended from driving while texting.
