POLICE
East Palestine
— A resident reported at 9:06 a.m. on Thursday that someone had tampered with a vehicle parked in a driveway.
— A resident reported someone prowling around her residence on W. Martin St. at 3:03 a.m. on Thursday. Officers did not locate anyone suspicious at the scene.
— An officer witnessed a head-on collision between two vehicles at 4:43 p.m. on state Route 14 on Wednesday. East Palestine Fire Department, East Palestine EMS and State Highway Patrol responded to the scene. Multiple people were transported to local hospitals.
— Officers responded to Wood St. for a disturbance at 3:16 p.m. on Wednesday. Contact was made with the parties and a report was taken.
— Two male juveniles came to the police station at 7:19 p.m. on Sept. 24 to report that they had been seen climbing on the roof of a nearby business. The woman who saw them said she would not report them if they reported themselves.
— Officers responded to a juvenile incident on E. North Avenue at 7:05 p.m. on Sept. 23. The incident was resolved.
— Officers responded at 1:50 p.m. on Sept. 23 to E. Clark St. for a neighbor dispute involving one neighbor who believed another neighbor had poured gasoline in his basement. The complainant was advised to call his landlord.
— Officer responded at 7:39 p.m. to E. Clark St. for a neighbor dispute involving one neighbor yelling at another for cutting grass. Officers spoke to all parties and a report was taken.
— Officers received a call Sept. 22 at 5:55 p.m. advising a text being sent out as a possible threat to East Palestine Schools. The matter was investigated and the threat found to be uncredible. The case was forwarded to the county prosecutor.
— Officers arrested Sandra Diamond, no address or age provided, for OVI following a traffic stop on N. Market St. at 10:41 p.m. on Sept. 21. Diamond was also cited for traffic control device violation.
— Officers conducted a welfare check at 8:46 p.m. on Sept. 21 on W. Clark St.
— Officers responded to North Ave. at 3:58 p.m. on Sept. 21 to reports of two individuals making door-to-door sales. The subjects were located and advised they needed a permit.
Leetonia
— Police responded at 2:49 p.m. Saturday to the area of Somer and Mill streets to investigate a potential open burning complaint. Upon arrival, the officer observed smoke coming from the front porch of a residence in the 400 Somer Street, where they also possessed a fog machine relative to Halloween decorations.
— Two officers staffing a high school football game at 8:15 p.m. Friday observed a Columbiana man pacing and shouting loud while on a phone call outside the front gate of the facility. The man informed officers that his juvenile daughter had been bullied repeatedly by a juvenile boy, which escalated to the boy striking his daughter in the head with a banana while she was sitting in the stands and reported such to her father. Administrators at Columbiana Schools were notified of the incident and a report put on record.
— A woman called after for assistance after she locked herself at 5:27 p.m. Sunday out of a building in the 600 block of Cherry Fork. Another key holder was contacted.
Salem
— Officers responded to the 900 block of Liberty Street at 11:39 p.m. Friday for a reported dispute between two men. The dispute occurred over a woman both men live with, and after speaking with all parties involved Officers determined the matter to be verbal in nature only. One of the men, and the woman left the residence for the evening.
— Officers responded to the 300 block of East Third Street at 9:56 p.m. Friday for a reported fireworks complaint. Officers checked the area for several minutes and all was quiet.
— Officers responded to the area of Jennings Avenue and West Sixth Street at 8:25 p.m. Friday for a reported warrant check. The caller advised that the person in question was walking around the location. Officers were given permission to check the garage where he was reportedly staying, but he was not located.
— Officers spoke to a woman by phone at 7:07 p.m. Friday regarding a man that came to a residence in the 500 block of South Broadway Avenue at claiming to be part of the Salem Crime Watch asking about a possible robbery. The caller wanted officers to know of the incident due to believing the man was not actually on Salem Crime Watch, and officers advised them there would be an extra watch in the area.
— Officers responded to the 1700 block of East State Street at 5:11 p.m. Friday for a wellness check on a female driver that reportedly appeared to be under the influence and had an infant in the vehicle. Officers checked the area but were unable to locate them.
— Officers spoke to a woman at the police department at 4:34 p.m. Friday for a report of possible theft. The woman advised that the caller had a lengthy hospital stay during which her rings were stolen. The caller advised that she was unsure where her rings were stolen but has not been able to locate them since returning him from the hospital. Officers advised a report would be made.
— Officer responded to the Salem bus garage at 3:59 p.m. Friday to take a report of a traffic violation that occurred in the 400 block of East Third Street. A blue Honda Pilot went around the school bus while it was stopped with its red stop lights on and its stop sign out. The driver was able to provide a vehicle description and license plate number. Officer will follow up with the owner of the vehicle.
— Officers spoke to a man at the police department at 1:33 p.m. Friday for a reported child custody incident. The man advised that his ex took their two children and he has not seen them since Sept. 12. The man advised he had contacted an attorney and wanted a police report made.
— While on scene in the 200 block of West Fifth Street at 1:48 p.m. Friday officers observed several chickens in the backyard of a residence. Officers spoke with a woman at the residence and were advised that they were not the property owner. Officers advised her to have the property owner contact them, and that they needed to get rid of the chickens because they were not within city ordinance guidelines.
— Officers responded to the 200 block of West Fifth Street at 1:35 p.m. Friday for a barking dog complaint. Officers sat in the area and heard the dog barking for several minutes. Officers spoke with a female resident who advised her son is the property owner and the dog is his, and that she is unable to control the dog. The woman was advised to have her son contact officers when he returned home.
— Officers responded to the 100 block of West State Street at 11:41 a.m. Friday for a wellness check on a woman. Officers located the woman who advised they were fine.
— Officers responded to the 400 block of Washington Avenue at 10:11 a.m. Friday for a speak with officer report regarding illegal trapping and shooting of animals in the city. Officers spoke with the homeowner advising him of the complaint, and he admitted to trapping raccoons, possums, and skunks on his property and then using a pellet gun to kill the animals. Officers advised the man he could trap the animal, but he cannot discharge a firearm in the city. The man advised that he did not know that and would not discharge a firearm in the city again.
