LISBON — A Minerva man who attempted to break into a residence in West Township last spring was sentenced to 24 months in prison for multiple charges, including attempted burglary.

Alan Summers, 57, West Egypt Road, appeared recently in Columbiana County Common Pleas Court for sentencing. All the terms were ordered served concurrently for a total of 24 months for a lesser offense of third-degree felony attempted burglary (originally second-degree felony burglary), fourth-degree felony trespass in a habitation when a person is present or likely to be present, and misdemeanors of criminal trespass and two counts of criminal damaging. He received credit for 160 days already served.

Summers attempted to break into a residence on Knox School Road, West Township on March 22 by putting a ladder up to the kitchen window, breaking it out and attempting to gain entry. An affidavit said he admitted to breaking into the detached garage on the property by breaking a window and leaving his shoes and stocking cap inside the garage.

Also in Common Pleas Court:

— Julie Carl-Picklesimer, 52, Lisbon Street, East Liverpool, was sentenced to 24 months in prison for two separate indictments for third-degree felony failure to comply with the order or signal of a police officer. She received 12 months for each count, but they were ordered served consecutively for the total of 24 months. Her driver’s license was suspended for 10 years and she received credit for 26 days already served in jail. She must self-report to the jail no later than Sept. 20. She fled from police attempting traffic stops on Feb. 2 in East Liverpool and on Oct. 20, 2023 in East Liverpool.

— William C. Wolfe, 49, El Reno, Okla., pleaded guilty to a lesser offense of attempted compelling prostitution and attempting unlawful sexual conduct with a minor, both fourth-degree felonies, with sentencing set for Dec. 2. The first count was originally compelling prostitution. Charges of possessing criminal tools and engaging in prostitution will be dismissed. Wolfe was accused of responding to an undercover ad on a known prostitution website of an adult female and 15-year-old juvenile and arranging for sexual conduct with both females in exchange for money, then driving to East Palestine on Feb. 3 for the meeting.

— John R. Wagner, 38, Warren, was sentenced to 18 months in prison for third-degree felony aggravated possession of drugs and fifth-degree felony possession of fentanyl-related compound, with the prison term to be served at the same time as a 10-month sentence he received last month for fifth-degree felony failure to fulfill violent offender database duties. He received credit for three days served. Wagner possessed methamphetamine in an amount equal or greater than bulk but less than five times bulk and possession fentanyl on Nov. 8, 2022. The indictment for the other charge stemmed from Wagner being a violent offender required to register his address with the sheriff’s office, which he failed to do on Feb. 21, 2023.

— Nicholas Conway, 43, Morris Road, Lisbon, pleaded guilty to fourth-degree felony grand theft of a motor vehicle, fifth-degree felony improper handling of firearms in a motor vehicle and misdemeanors of operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs third offense, operating a vehicle while under the influence of a listed controlled substance or a listed metabolite of a controlled substance and driving under suspension. Sentencing was set for Nov. 1. Conway allegedly possessed a pistol while impaired during a traffic stop on Dec. 13, 2023 in Madison Township. On March 19, 2020, he stole a 2006 Chrysler belonging to someone else.

— David Young, 45, Padgett Road, East Palestine, was placed on an intervention plan for three years for fourth-degree felony improper handling firearms in a motor vehicle and five days in jail for misdemeanors of operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs and driving under suspension. His driver’s license was suspended for three years and he was fined $1,000. A charge of OVI refusal was dismissed. During a traffic stop of a 4-wheeler on Sept. 7, 2023 in East Palestine, Young was found impaired and had a handgun in his possession.

— Robert Hoperich, 70, Somerset Drive, Salem, was placed on community control for three years for aggravated possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony, for possessing amphetamine on March 2, 2023.

— Randall Morris, 60, Trinity Church Road, Lisbon, was granted driving privileges while his case remains pending for two fifth-degree felony counts of improper handling of firearm in a motor vehicle and misdemeanors of two counts OVI for allegedly possessing a loaded handgun in his disabled vehicle when a trooper found him impaired Nov. 25, 2023.

— David Adams, 46, Garner Avenue, East Liverpool, had his community control for a 2020 case dishonorably terminated for weapons in a habitation. He was ordered to jail for 273 days, but received credit for 273 days already served in jail. He had recently been sentenced to 12 months in prison for third-degree felony having weapons while under disability and fifth-degree felony aggravated possession of drugs and received credit for 132 days served for the drug charge. Adams was accused of possessing methamphetamine on Feb. 7, 2022 and of having a weapon on April 19 this year. He’s prohibiting from having a weapon due to a previous felony drug conviction.

Municipal

LISBON — In Columbiana County Municipal Court, a pretrial was set Sept. 16 for Kyrin McLaughlin, 25, Rose Drive, Lisbon, charged with domestic violence and possess instruments to ingest for allegedly striking a child in the face during a domestic dispute on Sept. 5 and having a black plastic pen hollowed out with white powdery residue on the inside in Center Township.

Corey McWhorter, 35, Morton Street, East Liverpool, was fined $250 and sentenced to 180 days in jail, with 160 days suspended and credit for 12 days served, leaving a balance of eight days to serve in jail for aggravated menacing. He was ordered to complete 40 hours community service and to have no contact with the victim. McWhorter pointed a handgun at a man in the front yard who was arguing with his relative, causing the man to believe he would cause him serious physical harm on Aug. 24 in East Liverpool. The handgun had live rounds in the chamber, but did not have one in the chamber.

A pretrial was set Sept. 16 for Candice Desanzo, 44, North Market Street, East Palestine, charged with obstructing official business for allegedly being dishonest with an East Palestine police officer who responded to a report of her and a man who has a protection order against yelling at each other in the back yard recently. She claimed she had not seen him in two weeks and that she was arguing with her son, who left. Police then parked a street away and approached the residence on foot, finding both Desanzo and the man in the back yard.

A pretrial was set Dec. 5 for Jessica Hill, 41, West Wilson Street, Salem, charged with theft, drug paraphernalia and operating a vehicle impaired second offense for allegedly stealing 32 items valued at $968 from the Calcutta Walmart with another woman on Aug. 25 and then being caught in a vehicle in the parking lot with several drug paraphernalia items in her possession, including smoking devices, a digital scale with residue and a $1 bill with white residue inside. The OVI stemmed from a traffic stop on Sept. 3 in East Liverpool.

A pretrial was set Sept. 12 for Richard Vecchio, 62, state Route 164, Lisbon, charged with criminal trespass for allegedly trespassing at Smith Oil in Lisbon on Sept. 5 after being told multiple times by police officers and Smith Oil management that he wasn’t allowed on the property.

A pretrial was set Nov. 12 for Jamariona Alexi Hill-George, 21, Warren, charged with operating a motor vehicle without a valid license and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. She allegedly took a vehicle without permission on Aug. 5, 2022 and the vehicle was found later inoperable on state Route 11.

A pretrial was set Dec. 12 for Pamela Shingler, 59, New Cumberland, W.Va., charged with drug paraphernalia for allegedly possessing a burnt pipe during a traffic stop Aug. 30 in St. Clair Township.

A pretrial was set Dec. 9 for Jordan Belan, 36, East Liverpool Road, East Liverpool, charged with operating a vehicle impaired second offense, driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs and reasonable control.

A pretrial was set Dec. 12 for Ramel Shephard, 28, Cleveland, charged with OVI first offense and failure to display valid sticker.

Joshua Corvino, 39, Taylor Avenue, New Waterford, was fined $150 for driving while texting.

Joshua Fithian, 35, Boardman, was ordered to pay costs only for driving while texting, completing the distracted driving safety course.

Craig Fuller, 48, West Perry Street, Salem, was fined $100 for driving under suspension.

A pretrial was set Nov. 5 for Cody Brayshaw, 22, Metz Road, Columbiana, charged with speeding.

A pretrial was set Oct. 28 for Michelle Stone, 36, Alliance, charged with driving under suspension.

A pretrial was set Oct. 15 for Jessica Johnson, 28, state Route 45, Lisbon, charged with traffic control devices.

Scott Hall, 51, West Washington Street, Lisbon, was fined $50 for driving under suspension, with no fine for a second count of driving under suspension in a separate case, but an order to pay costs.
